Seat Belts in 1951? Sure!
In defense of Robert's seat belts in his '36 Ford, he was a bright lad who knew that Nash offered belts as an option in 1949. He either bought them at the Nash parts counter or stole them from his neighbor's '51 Nash. Either way, if the story says he had belts, then he had belts.
The story has coincidental parallels to my own youth. I had a '36 Ford sedan when I was 15 in 1950. I worked in a drug store (as we called them at the time) and one of my jobs was at the soda counter.
It wasn't Marie but Pat who came in occasionally for her cherry-coke. Our first date was a movie. We've been married for 56 years.
