The transformation of my M&P 15-22

Looks good. Man, that's alot of $$ invested in a .22.

Not really. All the parts that's been added to that 15-22 are standard AR parts. So if he likes, he can use them on any other AR that he has. And when you are talking about the AR platform in general, he's only scratched the surface of spending money on upgrades. The last AR I built from the ground up came out to about $2500 without optics.

In case anyone was wondering how much it probably cost him to build it up this way.

M&P15-22 rifle - $500 (probably less)
Magpul CTR - $115 (or less)
LaRue Indes Clips $20
Hogue Grip - $18
Larue Offset Mount - $89
Tango Down VFG ~ $85
Magpul MBUS front and rear $100
Eotech 511 - $350
Blue Force Vickers Sling $59
GG&G sling thing mount $35
4 extra 15-22 mags $80

Grand total $1451 (not including shipping costs). But My numbers are probably a little high. The only accessory on that list that cannot be used on any other AR, or just about any modern battle rifle, is the 4 extra magazines. So I'd say it's more of an investment in a system than it is on a specific rifle.

I know people who have over $1200 invested in a 10/22 not counting optics. And none of that is reusable in any other firearm.

I'll be working on building mine up to match my regular AR over the next few months (after Christmas). My list of parts is very close to maxicoopers list.

Modified safety selector (ambi safety)
Norgon ambi-catch (already installed)

Magpul CTR
Magpul MIAD grip
Magpul MBUS front and rear
Larue FUG
Larue Index Clips
MS2 Sling
slings mounts (haven't decided which ones yet)
Eotech XPS2

I'm also going to get the BBL threaded for FH/Supressor and then a Gem-tech outback II will be the final item. But these item's are the last on the priority list right now.

Great job on the M&P15-22 maxicooper. Enjoy.

Right. Kinda like buying a high-end portable GPS... it'll work wherever you decide to put it. And if the 15-22 is the first AR style firearm someone has purchased, they would do well to invest in quality optics if they think they'll eventually move to centerfire. As a gadget junky, I get a lot of use and fun from the inexpensive Chinese merchandise too.

As they say.... 'it's all good'

TH, you're spot on.

My budget is $1,300 at the beginning. At current stage, it was "very" close to the plan.

Fortunately, I got some of the mods from local gun stores which help me saved some shipping cost. I also got an Eotech from my fellow shooters at a discount price. ;)

What will go over the budget will be barrel threaded, flash hider and trigger upgrade. Those will be the final touch to the rifle.

The goal is to make a "Tacticool" and fun to shoot AR, for me and my kids to enjoy shooting and to spend valuable time together. And my son loves it, that is priceless. :D

I found that modding AR was additive than modding my MINI. :p

Can I mod any of this to a Sqiures Bingham? Had it lying around for 30 yrs or so.

I can relate, I gave up auto-xing my 87 BMW and have focused on upgrading my M4s......and have just started on the M&P15-22. :D I see some hand-me-downs making there way onto the 15-22.

THIS IS A LOT OF FUN!!!

BUT.... THIS IS MORE IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW!

Where is that Autox? Almost looks like Columbia SC at the stadium. By the way there is a sale going on for used M-16's. Seems like a good deal if you have the money.

New report from the range.

175 rounds of CCI standard velocity, 25 rounds of Federal Lightning (Walmart bulk), zero mulfunction. :D

Here is the result, I'm not that good of a shooter btw. :p

What ammo were you using when your rifle blew up into all those pieces? :D

Rem Golden Bullet !!!

You've posted some fantastic pictures, Maxi. If you're not in the photo industry, you certainly have a knack for it.

Thank you for the compliment. I really love taking pictures.

Here is my current screensaver......

Maybe I'm just an old moss back, but I'd rather add another $244 to the $1,300 you've already spent to get one of these.
Anschutz 5 + 1 Model 54 22 Long Rifle w/23" Barrel/Walnut St for Sale at Buds Gun Shop $1,544.00
The last one I owned (20 something years ago) would do half inch groups offhand at 50 yards with a 4x Leoupold.

That is a sweet rifle. ;)

Btw, the style of rifle was not what I was looking for. Below is the reason why I pick 15-22 at the first place.

The goal is to make a "Tacticool" and fun to shoot AR, for me and my kids to enjoy shooting and to spend valuable time together. And my son loves it, that is priceless. :D

And after playing with the 15-22, its accessories, and the barrel threaded/flash hider project that is on the way, I'm now officially broke. :p

On the other hand, we (me and my son) are having a great fun time with 15-22. So the money was well spent. :D

Can't wait to have it back, with its new look. ;)

I didn't think of asking. A new threaded barrel would probably be more expensive than having your existing barrel threaded. Eventually there should be enough of a supply of parts that we can get whatever O.E. parts or aftermarket parts we want. Maybe even bull barrels.
