The 'unofficial' 58 Club

My three year search is over! A friend turned me onto a beautiful S series Model 58 "only" 120 miles from home. I live in SoCal where all old S&W revolvers are "Off Roster", meaning They can't be imported into the state. The pool of available guns here in the state is miniscule and those here are only allowed to be purchased through face to face "Private Party Transfer".
I get to bail it out of 10 day jail Saturday. Photos will be enroute!
Congrats! Just FYI, any gun that is at least 50 years old is exempt from the roster. So not all old S&W revolvers are unable to be imported into the state ;)

Congratulations, I'll bet most of us would appreciate a range report when you get it out of jail!

I like the no bark stags, I kind of like the ones on it now too!
Heck put a different set on each day?????

I have a 3 inch 657 that is partial to 8.0 grains of Unique and a 215 grain Kieth style SWC. Heck, for that matter, I use 8.0 gr. of Unique in my .44 Specials and .44 Magnum with 240 gr. SWC. Easy on the gun and easy on me. Win - Win.

Well after reading all 21 pages and picking up a s serial numbered 58 the other day I feel like I can officially be a member now! I haven't been able to shoot it yet, but that will soon change. I help out at a gunstore and the owner brought out this 58 and I had to have it being a HUGE fan of the 41 magnum. Unfortunately no box or anything else but this gun is going to be used so I'm not heartbroken by any means! I'll have some photos up once I get some proper photos.

Heck probably half the 58 owners don't have the box & papers.
Enjoy it's still a great gun & we would like a range report.
Congratulations.

Thanks and I'll be sure to post a range report! I fell into it by chance and man am I glad I did! It certainly has that old smith smooth and crisp trigger! Upon further inspection it appears the cylinder may have been reblued, it has a different tint to it but I don't mind. It's going to get some different grips(but keeping original) but haven't decided what route I'm going with that yet either. What holster are guys carrying this in? I'm thinking about carrying it for ccw and while out in the field hunting/fishing/hiking. Thanks guys for all the help!

...they were made to carry....

I like the DeSantis Speed Scabbard. Holds the gun high and tight. Has "ears" that protect ones clothes from the hammer (and rear sight blade if the gun has one).

That's a great use for the 58! I have a cheap aftermarket set of stocks that I've drilled a hole in in the butt one on each side of the gripframe. Attach a lanyard through the holes to secure when on the stream fishing. Doesn't bother the finish or integrety of a nice six-gun!

My favorite holster is the Simply Rugged with the inside out straps. With those straps I can use the holster IWB or OWB. It's a nice medium priced, quality holster, & made in America!
