The 'unofficial' 58 Club

You can still buy a double-action revolver from out of state if you live in Kalifornicateya. FFL to FFL. Sending FFL has to send a little extra paperwork to receiving FFL. Rvolver must be converted to Single-Action only. Either before arrival in Kali, or at receiving FFL. Been there, done that.

Also, you convert it back to DA/SA once you complete 10 day wait. Usually receiving FFL can do that. But you may want to discuss the Smith's knowledge of S&W work BEFORE all of this takes place. Ask how I know...
LOL.

Some think if you buy the 44 magnum we cover it all. Not such the case.
They have 22 shorts, longs, long rifle, the three magnum calibers are unique to themselves. Each one is different.

And the .41 is one of the "uniquest" of them all. I'd hate to be without the .22!!!!!

For the ones who want something more than the 357 magnum but don't like the recoil of the 44 magnum there is the 41 magnum. Or if you just want another different caliber to shoot.

Lots of nice 58s here, thanks for sharing everyone.
I need to come back regularly to drool!

Frank237 I really like those Jordan Troopers they really help in fast DA shooting.

..so has anyone bought a new to them 58?? Except on the auction sites I can't even remember the last 58 I saw for sale in person...two maybe three years ago when the last of the 58-1s were being sold off.

Fired the Custom 58 in an IDPA shoot last Wednesday... Although I am slower than I used to be I still had more A zone hits than almost everyone else...

Nothing around here since I bought the nickel 58-1 from a local store in January. I need to do an updated group photo of my five, a blue S prefix, blue and nickel N prefix, and blue and nickel Classics....or maybe I should wait until after I find a S prefix nickel so I have a complete set. :)

KO

I haven't seen a 58 in a shop for a long time. I hear about one being traded now & then, but other than the auction sites??????
Too bad that's a great gun. Even an old beater is pretty desirable.

I have seen one in two years of local shows. I have sent some PM's to folks that are looking for them when I find one. I have been toying with letting my first year nickel 58 go to a new home as I have been really using the blued on more. The blue one even got carried this spring on a predator hunt and had a chance at a very large Axis Buck, but I deferred the shot to a visitor (which he missed).

I have seen a few show up here on the forum and have pointed the new owners towards this thread for more information on their new "M&P on Steroids" :D

My about 10 year search is now over.

While on a work trip to Salt Lake City, I fond an S range SN Model 58 in damn good shape, not great but a damn good shooter, in nickel.

Finally I have a great shooter. It was just in the used gun sections of Cabellas for under 600$ so yeah it got shipped to my local store very much quick.

now with pictures. as you can see these are the before, will have to put some rounds down range and then clean it all up for some after photos. But I think its in great shape for a S range SN Mod58.

dagamore...nice find...that will make an exceptional shooter.

A question...the finish looks "matte"...not polished nickel. Is there an N on the left side of the gripframe under the grips? If there is no N then the gun was originally blue that someone probably had hard chromed...that makes it an even better shooter/carry gun...

Bob

I plan on using it as a carry/shooter, i dont get the safe queen gun thing, it is an older gun, ~67/68 based on the SN#, I do not know if it has an N on the grip, will take a look at that later. I spent some time cleaning it up and brought a lot of the finish back. The above shots were when it was in the store, and it did not have a box or anything, so who knows how it was taken care of. I did think the Crane was replaced at some point, because it is bight and very wear free compared to the rest of the revolver.

took the grip off and got some photos of the markings under the grip, I dont see an N, but I could be wrong. about the best I could do with my phone for photos.

IIRC the N would be on the left side of the frame just ahead of the grip locator pin...it is fairly large...

This your first .41?

Not my first 41, I have a Redhawk and a Blackhawk in 41 Rem Mag as well. I love the round, I think its about the perfect pistol hunting round for North America. I did use my Blackhawk in Poland to hunt boar, and that was a hoot and a half.

The only N like thing I can see on the frame is a light small sort of russian looking lowercase n, so I doubt it was a factory nickle gun, but I have a letter off to S&W historian and will updated when that gets in.

Saw what I think is the highest price paid for a LNIB 1970s vintage Model 58...$2240!! I have seen LNIB 58s sell in the past for in the $1500+- range but can't ever remember one over $2K....
