The 'unofficial' 58 Club

SLOBBER ALERT! :D

It is widely known I'm a 57 fanatic and a devotee of the Ruger Blackhawk in .41. The cartridge is the same and I handload a lot of them.

210-grain Nosler JHP over 19.9 grs of H110 and a CCI mag primer
210-grain Sierra JHP (ditto)
Very accurate and they don't pound your hand.

Now, I've also run the Speer 210 Gold Dot over H110 and 2400 and they do quite well.
Likewise the 210-grain Hornady JHP is a good bullet.

I just brought home my new Henry Big Boy 41 Mag lever action to go with my beat up model 58 and 100 41 Spl brass from Starline, I am a happy camper. Will step out back to try em with real 41 mags in the next couple of days.
As far as the Model 58, I have never seen a Model of gun looks so worn so fast in all my days. Maybe it is cause they get shot a lot?

Frank - In some parts of Texas we are seeing a resurgence of 'Mexican Black Bear' .....they have been seen in the Big Bend area and parts west of us.

I routinely carry Remington 210gr JSP. I have not had an opportunity to test them on a large bear, but they have gone through feral hogs at the shoulder and keep on going. The largest hog that I have shot with the 41 was probably well over 400lbs.

The only bear that I have interest in hunting is an Alaska Grizzly (coastal brown), so I am not out looking for the Mexican Black Bears, but I feel confident that if one tried to tree me, that I would prevail.

I have seen some hard cast 240gr LSWCGC that would do the trick @1400 fps or better.

I, my friend and the Alaskan fishing guide have been within 25 yards or so

of an Alaskan Grizzly bear estimated to be at least 600 pounds+.

I was carrying a 6" 657, my friend had a 4" 629 and the guide had a shorty

Remington 308 bolt action carbine.

We Very Quickly Very Quietly got out of HIS salmon stream.

After we got to the boat and out of the area, we discussed how very Under

gunned we all felt at the moment we saw the bear.
 
For those new to the 41 Mag it penetrates like almost nothing I have ever seen in a big bore revolver. Have a good backstop when you fire it.

The new Henry 41 mag is a winner and a sweet, sweet, accurate shooter.
( I still think marlin goofed up by discontinuing it) I like it a heck of a lot and with my model 58 I feel good about anything I run across in this part of far north Texas except maybe the occasionally reported sesquatch that I think sneaks in over the nearby Red River from Oklahoma.
Course looking on my hunting tags I don't see sesquatch listed so it won't be because I am hunting one.

At a time like that I'd think a good Westly Richards double .470 Nitro Express with soft points would be just right?
 
Count me in as a new member. Got this one wearing Cokes. I know they were wearing magna P C's from factory but Cokes!!!! who cares. It is an S prefix so I guess it could have been bought new wearing them with dealer or distributor upgrade. What do yall think?

Saw a blue 60s vintage NIB 58 sell for over $2K on GunBroker a few weeks ago... I think that is the only one I have seen that high...

Thinking about it...I would find a correct set of PC Magna grips and sell the Cokes... One set I saw sell on eBay a couple of months ago brought $800...

Gary,

My very first 58 came with the help of a good friend and brother FF....It won't be going anywhere without me any time soon. I think that I would like to pass it on to a fellow 58 lover (or recent inductee) rather than remove it from circulation forever.

I was only joking , I don't really believe I could take it with me. Someone in the family will get custody of it after me.
It would be a crying same to bury a nice model 58.
I wonder if there will be a shooting range in heaven...that would be my idea of heaven !

A few yrs back I bought a blue 58 on gunbroker . The ad said " bank vault tight lockup " . When I got , the lock up was sooo loose that I refused to shoot it . Didn't have much luck with the seller either then, so I sent it back to the factory . For $189+shipping , it was fixed . I have shot it quite a bit and will never sell it . I have a buddy that sent one to Bowen Hamilton several years ago and had it converted to 45 LC . Real sweet shooting gun . But I will keep mine in 41 magnum .
