Believe it or not the View actually had a reasonable point of view in regards to the horrendous shootings. This Forensic Psychiatrist puts a majority of the blame on the 24 hour media competition and violence in video games. Hopefully this will help in changing the general population’s perceptions in regards to the 2nd Amendment.

As soon as he mentioned guns Whoopie and Joy sure tried to silence him but he held his ground and made them shut up and squirm.
 
Besides video games how about Movies and TV??? There are so many people shot in the first few minutes of most shows it's staggering.

I did a term paper in College a hundred years ago on Violence on TV, I do not have the statistics now but by the time a child reached 16 they had seen thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people killed on TV shows, not even counting the movies.Surely it must be more by now.

But this is all big money so nothing is done about that.

I could go on about the Stars but it would get "ugly":rolleyes:
 
I don't buy the whole violence in video games and TV shows and movies being the culprit. I like to think that people are capable of separating fantasy from reality. Though the 24 hour news cycle being bad, I can believe. If you watch the news, it seems like it's amazing that the world isn't ending every day. But sensationalism sells, I guess.

Tried to watch that disney movie "cars 2" with the grandsons,
what in the world does a tow-truck 'mater" need with a pair of chain-guns?

When a lot us were kids we went to the Saturday afternoon matinées sumtimes...
Roy and Gene never shot anyone to ragdolls...
And we knew it was jest a picture show.

Now in days young folks watch these violent movies and play those killin games...

It breaks my heart to say this.

I believe some just want to know what it feels like to take a life.
When confronted they know they have committed the most horrible of wrongs and then kill themselves.

Were these killers so insane they didn't know right from wrong?
But, felt the weight of their guilt to the point of suicide?

I just don't know..........

Probley for most us violent movies and video games might not be harmfull but with most or all young people that watchs them I suppose there are some half wits that it does affect.
 
Nature or Nurture.?

When you children are exposed to non stop violence on TV , video Games and Movies and they are brought up in a bad environment or have broken homes or live in hard core areas this is just "Normal" to them. They have no positive influence, Add in drugs or mental illness and you have a problem that is not going away.

They know no other way, then peer pressure, gangs and what are they gonna do. They can not escape it.
 
The more you watch something shocking it becomes less shocking. Not trying to be funny here, but I remember the first time I walked in a topless bar. It was like someone threw a bucket of water on me. After a few times its not a big deal. I havent been to one in 45 years now.
After seeing something like a 100,000 killings on tv it doesnt seem as serious does it? We know sick, immature minds seem to thrive on it.
 
Well aol has outed a lot of celebs and those who have CCW permits, and Whoppie carries and is a member of the NRA... I was flabbergasted!!!
But they say you can't alway's believe everything on the Web lol..

Didn't have video games , but I grew up on the Three Stooges , Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry.

Didn't get much more violent then that.

Somehow I never ran a saw over anyones head , grabbed their head with ice tongs , dropped an anvil on them , fed them carrots filled with dynamite , hit them in the head with an oversize mallet , etc.

Your second statement shows exactly why the first is shaky these days. Kid comes off the video game have wasted a couple of hundred folks and guess what, there it is on the news in real life. In the kid's mind he thinks that this must be normal and the video game is simply a training tool.

Years ago I might have agreed with you, but the sheer amount of violent fantasy material thrown at us by the entertainment media and video games means that more minds are misled simply through saturation.
 
The average "kid" who plays video games spends 4 hours playing per day. The above average gamer can play for 20 to 26 hours in a weekend. Some go on "benders" and play for 16 to 20 hours without taking as much as a food break. The most violent games are the most "addictive" since you are "allowed" to create your own brand of violence. Gaming is now over the internet and you are playing first person against people from all over the world. These games are realistic to the point of wearing headsets with communication capabilities that allows these gamers to converse with one another in real time as the game/exercise is executed. A military expert tells me this generation of young people are freaky fast when it comes to battlefield survey, target acquisition and termination with prejudice. The desensitization of these young people towards "violence" and "taking a life" is beyond a reasonable doubt the most troubling aspect of a violent video game.

Now are all children/young adults who participate in gaming capable of being a mass murder? No and I do not suggest that gaming creates mass murderers. I do believe a person with low self esteem and a sense of hopelessness is a recipe for trouble when they are within this fantasy world for hours upon hours each day.

If you can bear to watch these women, perhaps collectively the ugliest bunch on TV, Dr. Welner makes excellent sense.

I was astounded to hear his lucid points. He probably won't be invited on any similar talk shows soon! :D
 
Constantly playing violent video games will alter the way a kid sees and interprets things in his world. A few years ago a study about kids who were really into Dungeons and Dragons on a daily basis was done and demonstrated how certain children were affected by it in a negative way.

Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman a retired Army Ranger has been doing studies on violent video games for several years as a psychologist at West Point and finds a direct link between the two. He terms this Killology. The big problem he sees is a lack of any serious discipline with many young men who do this. He also trains at the FBI Academy, Texas Rangers, and Special Forces. He was also an expert witness at Timothy McVeighs trial.

If these types of videos weren't effective why would various companies spend billions on advertising their products attempting to entice us into buying them? They do work.

You should remember then that Bug Bunny/Looney Tunes animated films were heavily edited more than three-four decades after originally produced, as many scenes were deemed to be too violent.
 
I remember when there were plans to ban Tom & Jerry from British TV for being too violent. However, watching our Irish cousins blowing each other up and the PLO hi-jacking everything that moved on the news was ok. Go figure.

By this reasoning, all the Facebookers playing Farmville should be out plowing some fields and raising animals.
