Going through the daily routine of searching job boards and posting resumes, my wife shocked the hell out of me. From out of the blue she asks, "What about moving back to Denver?"

She'd actually thought it out an it made sense. Denver hasn't had quite the economic meltdown and collapse of the construction and design industries that Phoenix has gone through. I'm going on 5 months since being laid off with zero prospects on the horizon. She's in sales and marketing and would probably have an easier time finding a job in Denver than I do in Phoenix.

So I'm going to expand my search to include Denver and start talking to old friends and co-workers up there. I thought I'd never get her to leave Arizona after we had moved back down here. Yeah, moving's a pain in the ass and the real estate market here sucks, but at least it's a possibility.

Good luck. Isn't it nice having a wife who understands that sometimes one must do what one must do to survive?

Well, at least you'll have a hobby for the next couple of months - painting, packing, and looking for an apartment in Denver. We'll miss you on the forum!

When I saw the title of this thread, it made me think of when my wife and I were first married.

Ah, yes...

I wish you luck. My daughter & Son-in law are in Denver area, (Centennial) and he was laid off in Dec. Just got a job last month, but at half what he was making previously. He had been in the home construction, dry-wall finishing and texturing. He is now installing Direct TV. They hired 20 and had 600 applicants. Only other job he was offered was car sales, at commission only. There are over 6000 homes for sale in the Denver area, and values and prices have dropped drastically.

I hate to say it, but you might want to look at the D.C. area if you're trying to find a job. Pork barrel stimulus money has cushioned the area against the economic downturn.

And in one of those really wierd coincidental things today, I got a phone call out of the blue from a recruiter asking me if I would consider reloacting to Denver. Then my wife this afternoon first received a phone call then had a telephone interview for a product marketing position with a firm that is headquartered in Denver. I'm not listing the house yet, but we'll see where it leads.

As far as DC, that is the one area in the country that I actually refuse to live in. The wife and I have talked many times of the, "What if" secnarios of one of us getting a dream job offer.

The one thing that I have never wavered on is my refusal to live in metro DC. The place literally killed my dad when he was transferred to the Pentagon. I won't do that to myself or my family.
