Just watched The Travel Channel on the residence ship The World. What a way to live!

Though it does seem to be short on gun safes, and ranges?

I have lived on a ship a couple of times in my live.

USS INDEPENDENCE, USS MT WHITNEY, USS NASSAU, USS SAIPAN and back to USS MT WHITNEY.

The last tour on MT WHITNEY I had my own stateroom!

I don't care how fancy it seems, I just can't get excited about cruises.

And just where is their range? Boy, I bet the prices of ammo in their store are outta site! Actually, they may have some skeet shooting off the stern when they're out to sea, or is that just something from back in the 50s luxury liners. I get the idea that there's no public housing on that sucker.

Listening to the show about The World, the announcer said you could not hit golf balls into the sea anymore by treaty, so I looked this up and they were right,"...But amid growing concern about threats to sealife, the International Maritime Organization in 1990 prohibited ships from dumping any plastic waste -- including golf balls..." http://www.nytimes.com/1992/03...pics/Subjects/G/Golf

So who knows if you can shoot skeet off of the stern anymore?

Bet if you were rich enough, you could have them install a range on board, but my guess is it would not be PC, the Captain would be worried, all kinds of procedures, have to check out the weapon from the crew etc. So guess if you were that rich you would have your own boat/ship and do whatever you wanted to!

Me it is a canoe, duckboat, or wading in the marsh, or walking the field!

My wife and I spent a full two weeks on an Alaskan cruise once. It was great, but two weeks is a very l-o-n-g time on a ship regardless of the luxury. I'm sure some of our Navy vets can add a lot to this.

I was thinking that would sure get old fast. The only reason I'd even think about living there would be in an attempt to dodge law/taxes or something similar. If that ship stayed in international waters except for a few 'friendly' ports it could become a real haven. (for scum and good people alike I suppose)

I bet that ship stays away from Somalia, and I think they probably lost a few passenger this last few months!

I was on an Alaska cruise with my wife and we ran into an elderly couple that we chatted with more than once.

They were both originally from Great Brittan but now lived in Vancouver B.C.

We were cruising from Vancouver to Alaska, but they were going up...and back.

They said they had done it over and over. They were both WWII vets from the RAF and were in their late eighties. They like to go to the lounge in the evening an listen to the piano jazz trio and dance.

They said they would rather be on the boat than at home.

I don't know how long I could take it, but I'd like to give it a try?
