There is a "Rebel" in town

Group of us used to get paid to display our collections and wear WWII USAAF uniforms at air shows. We met countless WWII "Fly Boys" and got to go on many A/C. Last air show some friends and I attended was in NC, P-51 rides were $2K for about 10-15 minutes. The B-17 that crashed killing several was there. We were going to go for ride but it had a flat tire.B1D75598-A35F-4B84-BE90-DC6D846F66A7.jpg

The gentlemen who owns "Rebel" owns two additional P-51's and an F 86.
My friend is "repairing" the 50's on this one and will do the same on the Sabre.

He is also fabricating brass deflector/collection devices for the mini guns on Blackhawks and having a ball doing his job.

Speaking of Reno … my only experience in a P-51 happened at Carson City airport, about 20 years ago, where an acquaintance kept his hangared.

I'm the guy peeking out from the jumpseat behind the pilot. It was a heck of a ride. Especially trying to fly the monster myself with zero frontal visibility :)

This is a story I was told an a acquaintance that is fluent in Russian. Someone owned a WW2 Russian YAK-3 fighter, and he wanted the Russian word for MANIAC written in Cyrillic on the side of the plane. Since he had no knowledge of the Russian language, he went to an English-Russian dictionary, and looked at the Russian equivalent of MANIAC. There were several words listed, and he settled on the Russian word ИЗВРАЩЕНЕЦ to be painted on the side of his plane, not knowing what it meant. The Russian word for MANIAC is МАНЬЯК. ИЗВРАЩЕНЕЦ is the Russian word for PERVERT.

One of my contract staff in the Philippines got Chinese characters tattooed on his calves. A Chinese-American staffer saw him in shorts and started laughing hysterically - she never would tell us what the characters meant, and she strongly suggested he wear long pants in Asia.

Yep, living in Stead gave us a front row seat; final approach was directly over our house.

Absalom, that is a beautiful airplane, and, I bet, a memory you will cherish forever!

OMG, I must admit I didn't expect your story to end that way! That would be just my luck. I have a hard enough time with the English language, another one, especially Chinese, Japanese, or Russian would be impossible for me.
