Flying the Flag properly

Because those are not necessarily intentional acts. Light burns out, flag on the truck tears and isn't noticed, etc.
Lights do burn out, but, not having a light is intentional and only a moron would think a flag wouldn't get tattered and filthy being dragged around on the back of a pickup truck. No excuse. Want to show me your an actual patriot, there is a recruiter near you.

I do not however have a problem with most clothes that incorporate the flag in some manner.

Here is something that happened to my wife back in the late 70's early 80's.
She worked at a company that had a flagpole up front. Her boss asked her to put the flag up.
She had never done that before, so she takes the flag, goes out and puts it on the rope and raises it.
A short time later her father-in-law, my father (a fireman at that time) drives by and sees that the flag was upside down (meaning someone needs help) So he went inside and got my wife and helped her to raise the flag correctly. After work she came home and told me what happened, and we both had a little laugh about it!
We had a lady at work who was asked to raise the flag one day. Definitely on the odd side for learning new tasks. She put it star side down. This is at a utility building with 80 workers and on a main city street. Someone came into complain, most of those who had served were in a safety meeting. Complaints were listened to and the flag promptly correctly hung.
The next morning, given the same task, she was heard muttering with each step. "stars up, stars up, stars up".

Every time I hear this my blood boils. I did NOT serve in the military, residuals from a childhood disease that still haunt me today prevented me from doing so. And I have an answer that I can't repeat here for anyone who claims that I am not an "actual patriot" because as a toddler a vaccine did not work for me.

Not being able to serve because of legitimate medical issues is an exception. My point is a lot of fit people claim to be patriots while not serving the country in any meaningful way

my father tried to sign up back in '41; but, none of the services would take him. He couldn't figure out why until one of the recruiters told him to check with his employer. My dad was just a lowly diesel truck mechanic working for a north country trucking company. So, he heads into his boss's office and asks him if he knows something about why he can't get into any of the military branches of service. The boss says: "Yes, I got you a deferment. You are more important here keeping these trucks running. Most of our shipments are military contract materials that need to get from point A to Point B without exception." And they did.....!

This was just taken 10 minutes ago. My flag flies proudly 24/7 rain or shine. As you can see, it has a spotlight on it. It comes on at dusk and goes off at dawn.

After flying majestically for the last six months over the sands of southern Nevada, it was time to retire Old Glory and replace her.

I’ll take her to the local VFW for a proper send off. IMG_9770.jpeg

Just a reminder June 14th is Flag Day.
Some areas have organizations that collect worn or soiled flags and conduct proper flag retirement ceremonies if you ask around. Our previous (now deceased) County Sheriff was a HUGE proponent of doing this right and he sponsored a formal flag retirement ceremony each year on June 14th, at the county fairgrounds where all the local scouting organizations participated. The ceremony continues in Gene's honor and is very well attended by local citizens.

The flag on our house is right behind one of our porch lights so we’re good. I must admit that I did not plan it that way. It seemed like the right place to put it at the time and noticed the placement of the light afterwards.
