FWIW, I heard that Toyota is soon to offer to the market a solid-state battery that is supposed to be a 'game changer' for EV's. Something like a 10 minute charge equating to around 400 miles plus of driving.
In my opinion, it was bound to happen, that some company would go to market with a battery solution that changes the calculus.
If this happens, I would have to take a hard look at Toyota; essentially, eliminates my gas bill each year (x) 5 years of ownership is nothing to sneeze at.
People said the same thing about kerosene when electricity first came out, and guess how that turned out.
That's kinda true of all vehicles though.
It doesn't take a lot of damage to run a bill past the KBB value on anything
Presumably insurance companies' concerns about battery fires would also apply to hybrids, despite having smaller batteries.
Several Forum members have, or know owners of, both. Hopefully they will chime in on their insurance premiums.
Solve the battery lifespan problem and the script can flip.If you're talking about an older ICE then maybe. Since an EV is mostly battery and a major cost in replacing for even the smallest damage I still understand why it would be better to take the loss and total the vehicle.
Forget about the cost after an accident. An ICE with proper maintenance will outlive any EV on the road. Once the batteries on an EV have to be replaced it will cost more than the vehicle is worth. Kind of like owning an expensive "Mr.Coffee".

I am a hybrid. I have an ICE and a battery assist.
Mechanical things cannot fly. Everyone knows that (except those who make, fly, and ride on planes).
EVs just passed 9% of US new car sales.
And apparently that's the peak. It's downhill from here.
Nope. Check the business sites. Here's of hundreds. U.S. electric vehicle sales expected to hit new record in 2023 | Fortune
