I was hoping that the bear incident we had last year was a one time event.
It hit our place again last night. Bent fence, bird feeders down, etc.
I’ll talk to animal control today and see what they can do. Until that happens the 12 ga. sits by the back door. ( we have 2 dogs )
I don’t want to shoot a bear but it’s becoming a problem. Hopefully they can trap and relocate it.

Jessie bear number are way up even in little Ct .
Last year I had several encounters in my yard mostly the bear going after trash barrels.

One time I was in my garage working and a bear was 6' from me watching me when I saw it.
I started hollering and banging things and it took off but it was a bitt of a pucker factor as it was only a few feet from the open door.

Ct. has been talking about a limited hunt but the bleeding hearts have been fighting it.
A few people have been chased on some of the walking trails but till someone is badly hurt nothing will happen as a lot of people think they are cute.

I know what you mean about a little too close.
I told of a black bear last spring that walked into camp and snuck around behind us. It was about 20-25’ away before it decided to head the other way.
Beautiful animal but way too close.
I caught that one on cell phone video

I found a print or two and took pics. Maybe Bearbio or someone can estimate its size from the track. I’m thinking a year or maybe 2 year old? Maybe older since the track is nearly 6” wide.

Game & fish can’t/won’t help. Will not relocate since they’re “ everywhere anyways”, can’t shoot it unless it’s a threat to Human life only.
Time to find some 12 ga.beanbag or rubber bullets online.
My neighbor ran into it late last night walking his two puppies.
Said it wasn’t large but it wasn’t small either!

You can take any North American game animal with a .43 Bubbenstein Improved.

No no no no no! Get yourself an M1 Garand. Stuff it full of blacktop M-2 AP. You will be good to go! No matter what the angle of presentation, M-2 AP will settle the hash of any bear in the lower 48. Come to think of it it'll probably do it for any bear in North America. Just put their pumpkin on top of the fence post and pull the trigger. Amazing what that stuff can penetrate -steel plate etc. Can't think of the little bit of bone would be tougher! JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

The problem with that action is that, yes, it saves the bear but it just drives the problem down the road to some other poor citizen. One who may not be capable of dealing with the bear because of age, health, etc.
I think they are making a mistake in dealing with nuisance large and potentially dangerous animals this way instead of trapping and relocating.
Virginia still has vast tractless forests in the mountains and maybe even other states who may desire more bears.
That’s my two cents at least.

I believe the thinking is once it gets stung good a time or two with rubber buckshot that it will identify all humans as bad news and stay the heck away. Whether that works or not I think is a coin toss. When you get a large carnivore that is habituated to humans as a food source for scraps, garbage, etc. you have a real problem.

I had one years ago that was coming to my bird feeder to steal sunflower seeds. Game and Fish had me take it down for a few weeks and he fortunately went away.

I think most of the problem bears are young males trying to establish their own territories after being run off by other dominant males.
