I just bought a walther PPQ 9mm and was thinking about the M&P 40 to complete my set , i don't mind not having a safety could anyone point me in the right direction... I love the M&P and I really want one, I prefer 15 or larger mag but on the other hand I was thinking compact . Help please.....Pros to the M&P ... Cons... If any ... Also if anyone is looking at getting a walther PPQ is the way to go , also made by Smith and Wesson. Thanks all

I have owned both the 40 fs and the 40 compact, and I enjoy the compact much more. I seem to be more accurate with the pistol and although everyone on here seems to love to point out the recoil of the 40 compact, I find it to be quite manageable. I recently put 230 rounds through my compact saturday and my last 30 were all in the 9 ring with 5 head shots. I would also go with the compact because you still have the option to get a 15 round magazine, but you can't go from the 15 to 10 on a full size. Another reason to get the 40 is because you can purchase a 9mm barrel and for just a few more bucks you basically have two pistols. I'm very happy with my purchase of the 40 compact.

I've had the 40cchance for a couple months and am very pleased with it. I've put about 1000u rounds thru it and not a single problem. All good groups and the recoil is minimal for a compact. It also makes a good every day carry.

I have had the 40fs for a few years now and it is the best shooting pistol I own. I am considering a 45c now. :)

I have both a 40c & 40fs, the M&P40's are top notch pistols, just pick your options. Both of mine have factory night sights, no mag disconnect, no internal lock and no thumb safety.

I have a 40FS with the mag safety and like it very much. I shoot it fairly well now after almost a year. I tried a 40C a couple weeks ago at the range and did not like it. I switched between it and the FS and found the recoil was just too much. It was no fun to shoot. It really is not much smaller than the FS which I can CC in most situations (not with a bathing suit).

HUH?

So if you can purchase a 9mm barrel for the 40c do you also need the 9mm mags to use this ammo? Where would one get the parts and is this the only caliber that can be swapped for this frame? i.e. coiuld one swap th 357 barrel as well?

Almost 2K through my 4.25" barrel MP40 Pro Series without a hiccup. Accurate too and everything you've heard about the trigger getting better the more you shoot it is true. I have big hands so I didn't like the feel of the compact.

You can purchase a M&P357 from CDNN for $399 (add $30 for nite sights) and a .40 bbl and a 9mm bbl. The .40 and .357 mags are actually the same. Some report that the 9mm works OK in the .40 mag, but you can buy 9mm mags for $25. The .40/357 slide is a bit bigger where the case rim mates to it, but people report it works fine. You can buy barrels a lot of places like S&W or Midway.

I've had a full size .40 for a couple of months and I'm very impressed with it. I shoot better with it than many of my other handguns, which includes Glocks, Sigs and 3rd generation S&Ws. I'm glad I got it and plan to eventually add a .40c.

Actually you may not even have to purchase the mags, I'm planning on getting a 9 barrel for mine (as soon as they have more in) and was thinking of having to buy new mags.

Just for the heck of it tho, I loaded up my .40 mags with 9mm and cycled them through racking the slide and you know what...no problems at all. Now if it does this in real life firing or not I'm not sure but I'll let you know as soon as I do.

EDIT and to your other question, yes the .357 barrel can do the same thing. You just have to buy the barrels and drop them in. Midway is where I'm looking right now but everyone is out of the 9mm barrels. Most likely because we are all thinking of doing the same thing. :)
