third model 4 screw ???

Im not sure but I think I have a third model 4 screw top break .38 5"barrel nickel with pearl handels and 5 shot serial # 179799x <<<the x is a 5point star at the end of the SN
Can annyone help me identify this? Ive been coming real close but not quite the right trigger guard or shape of trigger not correct. I will try to get some pics posted in the next day or two. Thank you all

Here are some pics . I had to use my iPhone and the lighting isbt ideal but hopfully good enough to ID this pretty little .38
I think it was made for russia becuase of the rings down inside the chambers of the barrel. Ive been seeing similar but not quite. The shape of the triggerguard or the trigger is usally the ony difference and it has 5" barrel Nickel and Pearl
Any help would be great. Value too if anyone can give me an idea. The condition looks very nice for it age Better than most of the similar ones Ive been seeing Thank You All

As you stated, you have a 3rd Model .38 DA (per serial number). The 3-4-5 screw designation applies to hand ejectors, and has nothing to do with top breaks. The rings in the cylinder are in all .38 DA and SH S&Ws, and have nothing to do with Russia. The star after the number indicates that it went back to the factory for some work at one time. I've seen really exceptional .38 DAs go for up to $500-600 on Gunbroker. Yours looks like a nice gun, and the pearls and 5" barrel add to its value. My guess would be $400-500 for a value.

Yeah I saw some of the ones on Gunbroker and they were up over 700-800 and one I saw was over 3000 It didnt look as good as mine but it was probably very rare . Does the barrel detatch so I can clean in and around it a little better?

Hold the release latch up and pull up on the cylinder while unscrewing. If you don't hold the latch up it will scratch the cylinder.

Thank you for your help I got it apart and got it as clean as its gonna get. Its pretty and in amazing condition for being over 100yrs old huh You can`t pin down a date it was made from that serial# can you??

Is it possibe to get a complete history on this pistol if I sent it in to a S&W appraiser. I want to get a nice display case and maybe a letter of authenticity or something to go in the display with the pistol. Thank You.
