Are the third model safety hammerless revolvers considered "antiques". Looking at one with a SN in the low 60k range.

Clearly you are asking about a .38 Safety Hammerless, although you didn't say so. The .32 Third Model came along much later.

All 38 Safety, 3rd Models would be antiques, while all 32 Safety, Third Model would all be modern. As Jack says, you are likely talking about a 38 caliber because a 32 Safety in the 60,000 range would be a 1st Model.

Thanks everyone. Yes it is a 38 S&W. The pawn shop I got it from
says they consider it a C&R. I'm letting my C&R expire so it's
going to a local FFL. I suppose I'll get a lecture about a Pre 98 gun
being "antique" and why clutter up their bound book. They are
are on the electronic 4473 setup so it doesn't really matter.
I think it was made in 1896 or 97 which is why I initially posted it
on the 1896 to 1961 hand ejector forum, (SN 63133). I got
gigged for that.
Which brings up another question. If I had 4th or 5th model
Safety Hammerless where would I post questions about them if
they were made after 1898? They wouldn't be hand ejectors and
they wouldn't be antique. I think the only place that qualifies is
the lounge.

Read the purpose of the forum under the forum link.
It is not about model numbers, but just serial numbers. All 38 Safety models were built in a single sequence starting at "1" and ending at 261,493. The BATF has official cut off dates for antique status for all S&W revolvers. S&W 38 Safety revolvers above serial # 119,900 are considered as modern firearms so are subject to Federal and state laws regarding ownership and sales.
Your revolver is definitely an antique. Tell the Pawn Shop to check any guides and/or Jink or Supica books on the subject. The Safety you are discussing is definitely a Third Model and ALL Third Models are antiques, but it is tough to change minds, especially since they probably entered that revolver in their ledger.
