This .32 Smith for sale. Is it worth $200...$150? Condition good, except cylinder rolls free and action inoperable. Are repair parts available?
Macon County, North Carolina. Thanks...

Some repair parts are available but knowledgeable gunsmiths for these older S&W's are close to nonexistent. An example: "...except cylinder rolls free... If a cylinder stop is needed, the cost is close to $70 if you install it. And it will need to be fitted as it is oversize and not a drop-in part.

I rebuild these broken S&W's as a hobby and have five on my desk now. Most are awaiting parts. Some have been on my desk for years. I'd buy that revolver for $150 if I was going to repair it.

I see you have a book open to 3rd model. With a serial number that high its got to be 4th model or later. Is there a S&W monogram on the right hand side of the frame? Being that its blued, even with the bolt issues it seems like it would easily sell for the prices you mentioned.

In fact, I bet the longer than typical barrel and cylinder alone would sell for $150 on ebay. A lot of these old guns are parted out on ebay. Depending on what parts you need you probably could get it running again. I have done numerous basic repairs and clean-ups to these older S&Ws and if you have some basic know-how they aren't too bad. Sometimes they have old gummed up grease or other general maintenance needs that are long overdue. Sometimes dead ejectors, latches, or safeties are faulty because of broken parts or springs, but sometimes it's just due to poor cleaning, dried grease/oil, and general neglect. Jack First, Popperts, Numrich and other places usually carry some parts, but not everything is still available.

Thanks so much. I've asked the owner to bring it back for a closer examination. Since I have a couple boxes of old .32 shells, it's tempting to get it working..

Are you sure that's a .32 and not a .38? That trigger guard looks like a 3rd model but the 3rd model serial range for .32 caliber was way lower than that. I don't know if its possible to put a 3rd model TG on a 4th model, but yeah - something looks unusual there.

if I recall correctly, both Numrich and Popperts had recent listings for bolts for older .32s, like in the last 2 weeks or so. If you can narrow down the issue and can get the parts, get 'em while they're hot.

Hi There,

It sure looks like a .38 S&W DA to me.

Cheers!

And if this is indeed a 3rd model .38, blued with that long of a barrel, I'd say its probably worth $300+ to someone even in non-working condition. I know its not the be-all, end-all, but look at what these go for on GunBroker.
