Please do not respond to this thread. It's a third attempt to try to understand why Edit & Delete options disappear after a few days on threads I have started. This thread is being posted 5/31/2025 8:36am, using the Post Thread button.

Thanks for your post - the link is very interesting. i sent a long pm to bbqsauce, one of the forum helpers. He agreed that only getting 24 hours is wrong!

Mike, as the creator/moderator of a discussion forum (not about guns)… I can tell you that <not> placing a “time-out” on participants having unlimited ability to “edit” or “delete” their posts will eventually lead to trolls who come online anonymously, start an argument, then edit their posts or delete them, purely for the purpose of avoiding accountability.
By limiting the amount of time a poster can edit or delete their posts without moderator-approval… greatly reduces or eliminates troublemakers who “hit and run”.
If you need to edit or delete a post beyond the time-limit… simply contact the moderator who can either enable your preference…or will do it for you…. or may. simply allow you to stew in your own juices because you’ve acted maliciously.

We're now operating, since a few months ago, on different forum software. Prior to this move, the forum has been running, for many years, with unlimited Edit & Delete capability. We've sort-of grown up without giving a second thought to limited Edit and Delete. That has been the way of life for all those years, and as far as I know, as well as friends who post on the forum know, it's been working just fine. In other words, this significant change has come out of the blue. Maybe the forum owner has had problems, but I am not aware of that.

I do understand what you're saying.

Regards, Mike Priwer.
