When I don't shut down my computer before I go to bed...

So, my subconscious mind seems to be a simple yet impulsive place. FWIW, in the past six months I have directed my resources to precision + rarity while (considering) selling off prior purchases that don't fit the current focus. That's its' own inner battle in my sleeping mind that seems to be working itself out.

Down to it.

I (impulsively) put a bid on a large auction site a few days ago on a 686-5 DX Power Port. What my sleepy self didn't seem to care about was the price of $2000.00. I'm a sucker for machine-rest proven accuracy, and this 686 has the factory target to show for it. That, and I love the 686, and my collection reflects it. CS1's predominantly.

So now that it appears that this gun is about to be mine, I have a few questions for the well educated forum:

1.) Does anyone else have one of these that they have any experience with they can share?

2.) How many were made for this one year only/factory store only model? I think the model number is 104292.

Thank you in advance, and the only way I deal with buyers remorse is to tell myself that I got ahead of the market. So be it; welcome to the collection - You will fit in just fine...

It's only money! :D

I know. I know. We do have a limited supply. (Most of us.) I don't have experience with that particularly model, but I can tell you I have "overpaid" for a few guns that interested me. Yeah, I've regretted it, initially, but it didn't take long to get past that. :) Give yourself a break. Life is short. Enjoy that 686 DX! Come back and tell us about it. ;)

As soon as it comes in (assuming that I don't get outbid)...

It's off to the range; in the frigid SW Michigan winter along with: the 745,845,945, 952's and Ransom Rest. I almost forgot the 3" 686 CS1.

I have a ton of catching up to do on the range. It's just so cold, and every indoor range I call has a "buy our ammo only" to rent a lane. While I (kind of) understand, I still get pissed that some jerk ruined it for the rest of us with their hot loads. I assume that to be the reason over (short term) profits.

Either way, I'm ready to flip the equation from amassing to utilizing/enjoying.

Stay tuned. I've not done a range report yet.
