Three funerals/memorial services today through Friday.

I participate in a Acoustic Instruments only jam on Tuesdays at one of the local Community Centers, and have been for well over 20 years. Over the years familiar faces are no longer there, George the banjo player, Bill on upright bass, Jerry on fiddle, etc.

In recent months, Marvin stopped coming to play the bass, and Cloyse dropped out, he sang and played guitar.

Last Monday, (two days ago), my wife saw on social media that Marvin passed away on Sunday, yesterday, I got a call from a jamming friend telling me that Cloyse was gone. Then, Judy, (my precious wife) received a call telling her that Cloyse's wife, also named Judy, passed away a few hours after he had died. They had been married 62 years.

Sad news like this, coming in bunches, shook me up. Even though I know the spiritual condition of my heart and soul, it drives home the fact that life is so fragile and truly we are only a heart beat away from entering into eternity.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

What is the lyric "rock and roll heaven, ya know they got a hell of a band." Sadly there comes a time in everyne's life where we attend more funerals than weddings. We may not like it, but it is what it is.

I have started attending funerals in the last few years, to help prepare me for when my close friends are going! The worst so far has been a 15 year old boy, Not only is his dad a 25 year friend, but he had become a regular across the "Risk" tournament table.

I've retired from the deaconate, but I was my churches Head Deacon for about 20 years, I had two Deacons die in office from cancer and heart failure. After the second past that spring, the Elders ask me how I was doing? I responded, that if I lost one more friend that year I would shoot myself. It was 6 years before I lost another friend, and I have come to grips with the fact: Life has a 100% Mortality Rate!

I am sorry for your loss, and for your ever narrowing circle of acoustic jamming buddies, but that Judy followed Cloyse within a few hours also seems to me a blessing for a couple married 62 years.

Like in the movie the Green Mile the guy lived on and on and saw all die off. It seems being last has its draw backs. Like the song I look around and where have they all gone.

sorry for your loss. words can't replace the road miles spent together, fishing days at the river or old pits. camping in tents w/ hundreds at a meet in a cow field. eating fish cooked over a fire on a branch. memories, like a sunset, always a cherished thought.

They wouldn't come back down here if they could. Rest assured that you will see them again one day.

Thanks for the kind words, I guess it got to me because of the recent home going of my younger sister.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

It’s never easy to lose good friends with similar interests, and in my case, the supply of them is not being replenished. Sorry to hear about your friends. As others have said, I’m sure they are in a better place now.

Sounds like you shared the good bit of life with special folks. It's most important to add to the good bit. In my almost 66 years I watched a big bunch of Italians fight over trivial, stupid ####. I'm last, no one left for a vendetta. Good. Joe
