This Old Knife : Restoring

Paid a whopping $2 for this knife. Decided it would be a good place to start. a first time cleaning and sharpening. Seems at some point in the life of this blade the tip was used as a screwdriver and has a slight bend. My thinking is to take a file and remove this damage and then wet stone an edge back up and then finish with polishing it. Am I going about this correctly welcome to criticism and corrective instructions. My usual way in sharpening is with the Chefs Choice kitchen top sharpener.

German-made knives are generally well made with good steel- sturdy, tough, and hold an edge. You should be able to restore that blade without too much trouble. Unless a blade is so bad that I need to use a belt sander, I usually start a blade restoration with a good quality stone, and finish with a Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker. I picked up a pair of diamond rods for the Spyderco, which really helps set the blade angle. Good luck with your project!
