It appears to be a 2nd Model, serial numbers 4241 to 42483, produced from 1887 to 1890. Knowing the serial number would be nice.

Others here are better at the age estimates for these, but with this serial number it is in the range of the third model and likely from about 1895.

A re-welcome to you. The revolver is properly known as a 38 Safety, 3rd Model. Ship date would have been most likely 1893-1894.
I believe it may have been refinished in the past. There appear to be dimples around several pin and screw holes which is not how the factory work should look. It also has a grey finish that reminds me of cold blue coloration, but that could be lighting. Lastly, it is very dull, not the fine polishing of a factory gun. No big deal since there is not a great deal of value for the 38 Safety, partly because there were over a quarter-million made and many survived. I only have access to your pictures and a hands on inspection would be required to be certain of the finish.

You believe its re-blued? That gun yells it. Tell the guy the true poop. the box is really nice.

I'm not sure that it has been reblued. What I see is a "dry" revolver that needs to be rubbed down with oil and a soft cloth-like an old Tee shirt.
To refute the reblue; there are no buffing marks around the recoil shield or dishing around the screw holes. I don't believe the side plate has ever been off the revolver as it fits perfectly, all pins and the hammer stud nut are not polished flat.
By the way, that box is the correct box for that Model of Safety Hammerless. Line #7: (blurry;hard to read) "..press the cylinder catch..". Nice revolver.

Photo finish?
It's extremely difficult to evaluate blued finish in artificial light. Especially from a photograph!
It would be great to see a photo of the gun in natural light if possible. In my opinion the gun has a lot of original bluing on the barrel and protected areas where it appears dark and shiny. The other areas also show high point wear on the frame pins and hammer stud. It's possible that it's been touched up but again, the artificial light makes that kind of evaluation very difficult.
I agree that an in hand and under natural light would provide a more fair evaluation. Otherwise it's hard to tell by these photos in my opinion.
Either way it's a very nice set and an early box. Those pearl grips fit extremely well and they don't look like after market grips but would need to see more photos to give a more accurate opinion.

Regardless of the possibility of a refinish at some point over the last 125 years that is one cute little devil of a gun and the box is AWESOME!
