If you are talking about T/C Contender frames, they have a switch that enables them to shoot both rimfire and centerfire ammo as needed depending on the barrel that is installed. The switch is on top of the hammer and there is a "C" and an "R" stamped on the top of the hammer. For the .22 LR, you want the "R" position. The center position, which covers the small red paint dot, is a safety position and will keep the pistol from firing. Hope this helps.

i had one like you said a few years ago. this one is strange,no markings,,the hammer is different,,shows no c&r stamped,,it doesnt look broken,,i may take it to a gunsmith,,
i might post a picture of it but cant figure out how to do a photo.

The "switch" on the hammer is on the second generation Contender hammers. On first generation hammers you switch between rimfire and centerfire by using a screwdriver to rotate the raised area of the stud located in the face of the hammer that impacts the firing pin. The raised area should be on the top to impact the rimfire pin and on the bottom to impact the centerfire firing pin.

thank you so much jaybar. you are right,,its a first generation t/c. i did what you said and it worked perfect. i have 99% 1st generation t/c contender. this is the reason i like this forum so much.
