Carry not only with a round chambered, but with the safety off? I know I know, this has probably been beat to death, and I apologize, but I carry with a round chambered and am wondering how many others do the same with the safety off. Wondering how comfortable everyone is carrying with the safety off or not.

Round chambered, safety ON for me. When I drill at home, I practice kicking the safety off as I bring the weapon out of its holster and into firing position.

Any holster I purchase covers the safety to help protect against accidental disengagement while holstered.

In truth I keep the safety on when I carry my Shield, but I trained myself to deactivate with my thumb when pulling it out for defense. My M&P 40 has none and I carry that with a round chambered. There is a long trigger pull to fire these weapons. But I never carry without a holster covering the trigger.

+1 to Catsnipah & Wenzomatic. Couldn't have said it any better myself. You may get a few posters saying this is wrong & that you should in fact remove the safety. Do what feels right for you!

I carry daily with one in the chamber and safety off and in a good holster. Being a lefty the safety to me is useless and too awkward to train for. I'm completely comfortable carrying that way.

I carry my Shield round chambered, safety off.

The reason I carry that way has to do with watching videos of actual shootings on youtube. There are many. Almost all the shootings are mind numbing fast.. taking only 3 to 4 seconds. It was a real eye opener for me. Everyone carrying a firearm should watch these videos. Incredible.

Lastly, there is a progression to anything you do. For example, when I first started carrying, I didn't feel comfortable carrying with around in the chamber. As time went on, I did. The main thing is having a quality holster that covers the trigger.

I carry shield with one in the chamber and the safety on. With my full size I carry one in the chamber and it has no safety. And practice to use both in that way while carrying.

Same for me. The safety is very small and may have only been added for states that require it.

Just curious.. what did you type in to watch these youtube videos you are talking about?

The main safety factor is a quality holster that covers and protects the trigger. I click my safety on to holster and then click the safety off to carry. I find that trying to click the safety off after drawing is very awkward for me and would most likely put me in 2nd place in a gun fight.

One in the Chamber and Safety Off for me.
In over 18 Months of carrying, he safety has never inadvertently switched from off to on, or from on to off. The safety has a very firm feel to it.

If Wenzomatic thinks there is a long trigger pull to THESE weapons, he's never shot a PF-9, LC9, or other true DAO. ;) :)... But yes... The 5-6Lb weight of the factory Shield trigger is definitely no Hair Trigger (as long as you don't substantially lighten it with a trigger kit). I know it's not going to go bang unless my finger 'tells it to'. :D

I shoot Glock and XD, as well as my Shield and i n my opinion, a manual safety on a Striker Fired pistol is like a Parking Break on a car. We all trained to use it in Driver's Ed as part of our parking ritual, but When was the last time you actually used a Parking (emergency) Break as routine?
Like I wrote... Just my opinion. :)

On the striker fired (Glock, etc.) it is round chambered; on DA/SA (Beretta 92, Walther PPK/S, etc.) round chambered with safety on then move the safety to the off position and first round is DA then the rest are SA. All of these, as noted above , are carried in a quality holster which covers the trigger.

Round in chamber safety off for me my other guys don't have safeties so got used to carrying that way.

Round in the chamber. I only use the safety while holstering ( IWB ), then it's immediately switched off.

Round in the chamber safety off. For me it's a matter of muscle memory. Depending on the situation I carry a Glock 21, Glock 20, S&W shield and now soon a S&W M&P 40. Because two of those do not have safety's I don't use the safety on the S&W's.

The important thing is however YOU carry YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH.
