I'm considering getting a M&P 40 full size for my next purchase. Any thoughts/opinions on the 40? How does it shoot? Likes, Dislikes? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I've been very pleased with the M&P .40 full size as it tames the snap of the .40 better than other .40 cal pistols I've shot. It's an honest shooter that I can point-shoot reliably with. Yes, I'd buy it again.

I just bought one a week ago and love mine. Like Bmanz said the recoil is less than other 40's. The recoil was not that much more than my 9mm Browning High Power I shot with it right after buying the M&P.
Feels great in the hand, points well, trigger really not bad and will only get better with break in, extra mags reasonably priced on sale.
I had to have another M&P so 5 days later I traded in my Sig P220 for a 9C.

Love my .40! I have about 600 rounds through it now and never a hiccup. Every round went bang, whitebox, lawman, reloads, hollow point, everything.

Do you know you can drop a factory 9 barrel in the .40 and shoot 9mm's? You can do the same with the .357 barrel. With the 9's you should get 9mm mags or the last round won't feed.

Good luck!

BTW, if you are a first responder you can buy the M&P line from Express Police or Bud's Police online for $398 and they come with three mags then!!! :D

40 Full Size/40 Compact, have both and love them both! Both shoot better than I can, never a hic-up. Wife, daughter and son also have 40 Full Size.

My M&P .40 FS is used in IDPA/USPSA matches frequently and has over 15,000 rounds downrange with out a hiccup EVER. Get one soon and see for yourself why so many of us greatly enjoy them!

Just shot my full size .40 for the first time today and I love it. Recoil is less than the other .40's I shot in the past (Glock, XD, XDm). I also bought a stormlake 357 sig barrel for it that I also shot today and it worked well. I have nothing bad to say about this gun so far. Glad I purchased it.

I just shot my new M&P full size 45 and it is such a pleasure to shoot.Very accurate! I know I'm off topic a little.

I recently used my .40 FS to qualify (LEO). We shot over 1000 rounds. Our SWAT instructors put their custom Glocks down and tried to break our M&Ps (shooting them of course:)) We had five and the SWAT guys were very impressed with them, That's a good enough endorsement for me.

I shot 900 rounds through mine. No FTF or FTE. I have the Ameriglo ProGlo and Bowie Tactical Operator sights. RAM and USB from Apex. It's awesome...

My new M&P40 got its initial range time this afternoon. 110 rounds went downrange without a hiccup. The 40 is a snappy little round (for fast splits), but the M&P grip design is very good and helps offset the muzzle flip to a degree (over other designs).

Outstanding firearm! I have a 40 Pro and it shoots wonderful. In the picture you can see what it looks like with a green laser sight attached.

Been shooting one for about 4 months now. Best gun I have ever owned. I tried getting either the 40L or PRO but no go as I live in CA.

I would have liked the extra 3/4" barrel length as well as slide weight.

But I have to say, the FS is one great gun.

Love my M&P .40 FS Have had it about 4 months with 600rounds shot through it. The trigger just gets smoother all the time. I've been a revolver guy for 20 years. I absolutly love this gun, a joy to shoot. Who knew! :)

I'm old school, very reluctant to accept the "tupperware" pistols, so I traded into a new M&P 40 LE 309300 awhile back, no frills and no locks, and now it is my pistol to go to when needed. Just a little big for concealed carry. My 4013TSW and 4006 stay in the safe. I still like my 3rd generations.

Buck11 reminds me of another reason I'm blessed to be a Texan-I see the pistol, rifle, shotgun, I buy the pistol, rifle, shotgun and I take it with me, ammo and all!

Been toying with getting one of these or getting a Glock 22 gen 4. Thanks for the reviews everyone

I shot a rental M&P and I literally had to check the magazine and the ammo box to confirm I was shooting a 40 cal. handgun.
It manages recoil very well for a polymer, far better than the other polymers I've shot (Glock 22, 23, Springfield something).

I'm generally not a poly man myself, but I could see myself perhaps one day adding one of these to my 3rd Gen family.
