Hi BAM-BAM,
My 3914NL is actually the only 39XX series gun that I do not have Hogues on. While the Hogue 39XX grips do make a 3913 or 3914 feel like they were made to fit my hand, they DO take a little away from the concealability of the gun.
So in keeping with the intent of my 3914NLs Grand daddy, the original Asp pistol, I looked for a grip which would provide superior control, yet be thin and no detriment to concealing the gun.
What I've settled on is the factory OEM with a textured rubber grip sleeve I purchased at my LGS. It is marketed as "The gripper", IIRC. It comes in three sizes, Lg/Md/Sm. I chose the med size. Works great. It slips on tightly. The texturing and slightly sticky rubber feel anchor the thin 3914NL in my hand. Yet it does not grab on covering garments such as jackets or oversized shirts.
The ultimate test is of course shooting the gun. With the grip set up as I have it, I can draw from concealment and put 5 rounds of 147 grain RA9b on a 3x5 index card at 5 yards in under 5 seconds. The old 5x5x5 drill. That works for me.
Now being a lefty, I only use the 3914NLs decocker/safety as a decocker. I decock it and return it to the fire position. If it had an ambi, like my other 39XX guns, I might never have decided to use it as a deep concealment gun and therefore would not have needed anything besides the Hogues. As the OEM grips are too slippery during draw and fire drills, for me.
But I do use it pretty much every day - on my own time. The only gun I carry more is my early 4513TSW 6-shot variant. But I carry that one to work every night. Regards 18DAI
