Went to my lgs....one of the largest volume dealers in the SE...the manager and I began talking about S&W 3rd gens....he asked me to wait a min...disappeared to the back and brought out this 3913NL ANIB ...still has the inspection sticker attached...we ended up agreeing on a very reasonable price...so it came home with me....looks like a lady smith without the stamped "Lady Smith" on the slide....are they hard to find?

I've been looking for a decent one for years, great find! I just bought a VG COND Ladysmith yesterday. Same gun, but I have the name on the slide with the not-so-manley purse that comes with it ha ha ha. Again, Great find!

My only safe queen purchased off this forum some years ago - whenever I get the urge to shoot the NL, I just take my LS out instead since it already has some miles on it. I guess I'm lucky to have both.

Now you can start looking for the very uncommon 3914NL. :D

Yours is a beauty, though. And to think you wouldn't even have known it was at the store, if you hadn't been chatting with the guy there about Third Gens....

What is the difference between the 3913 and the 3913NL? Never having seen one but hearing talk on the forum I suspect the difference between the NL(?) and LS (Lady Smith) is just the logo?

Vigil617 thanks and yes you are correct...the elusive 3914NL....one popped up on the big auction site a few weeks ago...it was in ok condition...I passed on bidding...wish I had now....it would have gone nicely with my 3913, 3913NL, 3914 & 3914tsw.....oh well...maybe another day:):)

Jsbethel im with you...I doubt this one will see any range action...

Yeah..I am still looking for one...have been for 3 years.

Nice 3913NL.. I bought one about 3 years ago ANIB for $600 is that helps with your assessment of how well you did!!

Mbliss...I couldn't believe I left the lgs with this one. The manager said he wanted it to go to someone that would appreciate it!!! Lucky me...:):):)

Both the 3913NL and more elusive 3914NL are stellar 9mm carry guns.

I picked up a badly neglected 3914NL off the auction board a few years back. I just recently picked up a new slide for it. The original slide was badly pitted and rusted. The new slide returns it to its former glory.

It is my carry gun for when I "can't carry a gun". Disappears under a t-shirt in a DeSantis Nemesis IWB holster. Very accurate and bet your life reliable. Perfect size and weight for discreet carrying. And looks good doing all that. They should still be making it. Regards 18DAI

Geesus Christmas!!!   Another impressive Dparker "score-of-the-day"!!! :D

And let's be perfectly clear here: You didn't "buy" that 3913NL. :) It was gifted to you by that manager! :) Most likely he was thanking you for all the megabucks worth of business you do there! :D

If you aren't his very best customer ever, who is??? ;)

I think I've seen you write that you like the Hogue grips......what are you using on that 3914NL?

I like checkered dark wood on my stainless 39xxs and light wood on my 3914s......... use to be able to pick up one or two sets a year "CHEAP" on the Hogue Auction....... never could find the issues on most of them!

Hi BAM-BAM,

My 3914NL is actually the only 39XX series gun that I do not have Hogues on. While the Hogue 39XX grips do make a 3913 or 3914 feel like they were made to fit my hand, they DO take a little away from the concealability of the gun.

So in keeping with the intent of my 3914NLs Grand daddy, the original Asp pistol, I looked for a grip which would provide superior control, yet be thin and no detriment to concealing the gun.

What I've settled on is the factory OEM with a textured rubber grip sleeve I purchased at my LGS. It is marketed as "The gripper", IIRC. It comes in three sizes, Lg/Md/Sm. I chose the med size. Works great. It slips on tightly. The texturing and slightly sticky rubber feel anchor the thin 3914NL in my hand. Yet it does not grab on covering garments such as jackets or oversized shirts.

The ultimate test is of course shooting the gun. With the grip set up as I have it, I can draw from concealment and put 5 rounds of 147 grain RA9b on a 3x5 index card at 5 yards in under 5 seconds. The old 5x5x5 drill. That works for me.

Now being a lefty, I only use the 3914NLs decocker/safety as a decocker. I decock it and return it to the fire position. If it had an ambi, like my other 39XX guns, I might never have decided to use it as a deep concealment gun and therefore would not have needed anything besides the Hogues. As the OEM grips are too slippery during draw and fire drills, for me.

But I do use it pretty much every day - on my own time. The only gun I carry more is my early 4513TSW 6-shot variant. But I carry that one to work every night. Regards 18DAI
