Thoughts on the 3913NL

LOL.... we all have the desire to save fractions of an inch on our concealed carry guns.

My concession to concealed carry is to use a steel based flush fit 7rd. magazine...which saves me all of about 1/3 of an inch in butt length!!!!

I really like feel/grip with the checkered wood Hogue grips on the 39xx's; as they really makes them feel, IMO, like a mini-39 or a custom 39-Trapper ( I'm guessing here).

And after carrying the 39xx concealed for over 25years... without being challenged...... I've quit worrying about the "big butt"!!!!!

I tried the 'grip sleeve" on my PC 6906 ....but in the end I just stippled the checkered areas of the grip in a "fish scale" pattern.

I had one of those 7 rounders. Came with my 3954 IIRC. Went with it too. I tried it once with the 3914NL. But I didnt like giving up the extra round for the slight decrease in grip length.

I like having 9 rounds of 9mm on tap. And I could never understand those who favored 5 round J frames. Who would want less ammo in a less concealeable platform when they could have a slim light weight 39XX with 9 rounds? Regards 18DAI

Since coming back to the the 'Burbs of the Burgh" 24 years ago 7+1 plus a spare 8..... has been GTG.

Prior to a 3G 3913 my suit gun was a PPK in a Sparks Summer Special....... so 8 9mm trumped 6+1 .380s

If I feel the need for more.....

I jump to my PC-6906 12+1 plus a standard 15 round mag with a +2 grip adapter..... even havea couple of 12rd mags. with modified 5906 bases...... also one has a modified flat metal baseplate from an old 59 mag. which fits flush.

One of my "Even a blind squirrel finds and acorn." finds. I didn't even know what it was until a year or so after I bought it.

Now you can start looking for the very uncommon 3914NL. :D

Yours is a beauty, though. And to think you wouldn't even have known it was at the store, if you hadn't been chatting with the guy there about Third Gens....

Very nice 3914NL. IMO it is the pistol the original Asp aspired to be. Regards 18DAI

I've never tried the Hogue wood grips, but I am getting a set of the KSD wood grips for my 3913TSW w/rail. Maybe I'll try them on this as well.

I should probably carry this more than I do. Which is hardly ever.

Sweeeeet.....

..... know how much sweeeeeeter it would look with a nice set of Hogue checkered wood grips.......:D

From the pictures I've seen of the KSD grips....the sides look "flat"..... while the Hogues are arched in a palm swell..... and a bit of an arched backstrap....

Easy solution: Sell the 3913TSW to me and put the KSD wood grips on the 3914NL. :D Done!!! :)

yes they are;)...but ...just a little thicker than the factory Delrins...not near as thick as the Hogue rubber panels that were replaced....I tried the grip sleeve.....stippling the factory grips...and Talon grip material on the factory grip....the KSD's work for me....and look pretty cool ;).. ....

I have one with the LS logo on it. Just about the perfect carry auto. I don't fret too much about the logo....

I have just arranged to buy a 3913NL from a member here and now I need to find a "Lady Smith" logo version. Friday is my anniversary and I can say I got one for each of us as an anniversary present.

Would you consider a sale or trade? I live in Pittsburgh and am a Pirates fan as well.

Mine is the blued version, so it wouldn't quite match...Pretty nice husband you are, though. Let me know if things don't work out! I'd like a matching 1006 on our 1st anniversary!

My condolences on the Bucs' season so far.

Well not all that nice, as I'm the shooter and collecter in the family.

I tried getting matching dirt bikes one year and she sort of bought off on the idea, but never rode her's

I think she thinks I just buy things I like and try to justify it by getting her the same thing.

Interesting.. I have bought several pistols over the years that were .380 or smaller caliber. I usually present it to the Mrs...because 90% of the time she just sticks with her regular rotation and I get to use it/ keep it anyway.

What is the difference between the 3913 and the 3913NL? Never having seen one but hearing talk on the forum I suspect the difference between the NL(?) and LS (Lady Smith) is just the logo?

The NL has a different shaped dust cover and grey vs. black grips. Otherwise afaik they are identical mechanically.

The big bugaboo for me is that my 3913 fits holsters that fit my Beretta compacts, a big plus.
