Thread size on N-target screw?

I have a beautiful set of GA N-target stocks but the brass escutcheon is buggered and the screw will not thread in. What size tap should I use to chase the thread in the stock?

I keep thinking that it's a .125 x 44, but I'm not 100%.

Thanks Mike. I'll give that a try. My problem now is I'm missing my two smaller taps, which probably include the .125x44. I will work it out. Thanks again.

It is a 5-44 thread.

OK! Going to Tucker Guns to see my buddy Ken Lunquest in the A.M. He will have a 5x44. Then to the range to test my new 29-2, with the stocks.

Since the screw is steel and the escutcheon is brass, I've chased the threads by entering the brass escutcheon from the other side and running the screw through the bad threads.

I just went down to the friendly neighborhood Ace and picked up a 5x44 tap. It's all dressed up now. Here are the stocks I needed to fix. You can see why I wanted them fixed.
