Threaded Barrel?

Do any of you have a threaded barrel just for kicks with no attachments? I have no desire to put any attachments on my weapon so I feel it would be a waste of money because I most likely won’t utilize it, but love the look. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to having a threaded barrel besides adding attachments?

The TB is slightly longer, so some tech-types here will probably have thoughts on longer barrel / better trajectory / velocity.

It is a factor on places like Canada, where a barrel has to be a certain length minimum.

Downside? You need to be sure you don't lose the thread protector, otherwise the threads will be banged up, and the added value of the TB will be lost. Also, depending on how the protector is fitted, you may have a bit more lead / powder buildup at that point (I have different barrels for one pistol, and see a difference in cleaning between them).

Also, in states where things are abusively regulated, a TB may be illegal (??) to begin with, so it may not be the best pistol for a car gun if you travel a lot.

I'm sure there are other factors. These are just off the cuff.

In a word, No.

Yup they look cool, I’m planning on getting a compensator soon.

For the extra length of a bare threaded barrel, the performance enhancement (particularly since the sight radius isn't changed) will be almost impossible to measure.

There will be a slight increase in velocity -- which means a slightly higher point of impact for most distances (as gravity has less time to affect a bullet for a given distance -- since the bullet gets there just a bit sooner.) It would be hard to measure the difference in speed (or points of impact) unless you use a Ransom Rest.

On my Shield 9, I got a threaded barrel for the option of not using the ported barrel (Performance Center).

The longer barrel could help accuracy but a longer sight radius is more realistic in helping accuracy. I do find with the aftermarket threaded barrel, I am more accurate with it. It could be the different twist rate compared to the OEM barrel though.

I did get it because I wanted a gold barrel and didn't feel it made sense to get another barrel that doesn't have threads.

I can carry it in the holster with the threaded barrel as well without issue.

If you're curious about muzzle flip with a comp:
It's compared to a ported barrel though instead of the standard Shield barrel. That's at 25+ yards at I'm guessing a 10" x 16"? plate? The ammo is more accurate than my usual range ammo.
