Three Inch Model 10 Coming

Bud's gun shop got some of these in and I just had to go for one.

Now to see just what condition it is in when it arrives...probably next week sometime.

Just something about the looks of the 3" S&W revolver.

Like I really "need" another gun in the house!

In Bud's second pic of the M10, showing the sideplate, does anyone know what that thing is on the upper portion of the sideplate just behind the recoil shield?

Old, if you are talking about the sticker, it is for identification. Mine is VPA03425. Victoria Police Armory. This can be read with the proper device for gun history, tracking, service etc. I left mine on. They can be easily removed if one wants to. I think that they are neat. Mine is a 1981,10-8, w/4" barrel. Bob

I picked up one of those 3 inch M10 from Buds. The finish is a little rough but man that is a solid gun. Great trigger pull and shoots sweet. Thinking about picking up another one. The one I have is a 10-5.

Here is a couple of Bud's three inch barrel model 10s. They both lock up rock solid and have very nice triggers.

I picked up two of the 3" 10's. One has pretty good finish and one is a bit holster worn. The more worn one locks up tighter. I really like the 'medium' weight barrel. The heavy barrel on my 3" 65 seems excessive.

Well, mine made the trip from Bud's and arrived at my FFL today.

It is a 10-5 with sticker VPA03038 and serial number D6863.

Anyone have any information on it?

I'm guessing the VPA is as stated above: Victoria Police Armoury. New Zealand?? Oh, Australia!!

Where can I look up date of manufacture?

Pictures tomorrow...I'm cleaning up the grips tonight!

Has a 1968 birthday if the serial # is correct. You can get DOB and a whole lot of info by buying the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.

Victoria is in Australia. They do like the Brits and throw "U"s in all sorts of strange places!

Old Corp, that little sticker was placed on the revolver by the Victoria Police Armoury and has one of those little square things that can be read by an electronic scanner. It also has the VPA number assigned. I understand you can find out the history of the gun by scanning the sticker.
