I read of wooly worms and 50 year reunions and began to think. Usually dangerous and depressing. I grew up near the warm waters of the Ouachita. We had Pecan Worms in June. They were nearly the size of your pinky. They looked like a Catalpha Worm but were brown instead of green. You could hear the plop of their hitting the wated. Liisten and the sound of a fat, red-belly, blue gill would follow. If you could could reach the ripples with a popping bug, you'd soon have a mess. I never got to show them to my son. Today, the pecan worms look like wooly worms and the cold water Rain Bows might be fooled but the fish down here won't pay 'em no mind. Next week marks 50 for me. The girls that were pretty then are even better now. The homely ones grew up to be passable. Eating fried Blue Gills do that to a girl. It just made me fatter. I want to get me some hugs but mostly I want to find me a table of ageing guys talking how we survived the scares of living before Dr. Salk made it safe. Or which ones did not make it 50 years. But mostly I hope there will be some who can remember when worms weren't wooly. Maybe there'll be someone that can remember when smokes sold two for a nickle on "Smoker's Hill". I might light one up at that price. I'll have to drive a few miles. Some are coming from Minnesota, some from California. Funny, some live a few minutes down the road and I've not seen them since the 45th.

Fried bream is some kind of fine eating. Bluegills, Goggleyes, Pumpkin Seeds, whatever, they're all great. Some of those homely girls, just needed to get away from Mama(and Papa!) to blossom.
