Of a truth, I know and will not deny that there are Christmas songs that receive no lament when finished. But, that having been said, there are so many that are played for the simple appreciation of beauty, joy and celebration focused on the season, and even better, focused on Christ Jesus whose birth they celebrate. As a child and teenager I enjoyed singing the common Christmas songs heard at church and on the AM ... later FM radio. In 1976, I blundered into an overload of classical music when I followed a pretty little green-eyed girl into the University Choir room. Boom baby! I was like a deer in bright headlights! To say I was smote would be putting it mildly! Yep! Conquered on the spot by her ... and Handel's Messiah and all those other pieces of music! Three years later I married that girl! And now 45 years later, we celebrate our second Christmas retired with our own little condo. And on the bookshelf is her copy of Messiah! Mine got lost in one of our many moves. We've sung portions of it for the last almost half century! So, I am currently listening to "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac. Next up is Walk of Life by Dire Straits. Later this afternoon ... it'll be ... you guessed it! Christmas music 2024! I'll even be strumming a few on my Martin six string. Sincerely. bruce.
