I know nothing about them! But I was thinking about when Norinco brought theirs out. They were not expensive and worked! Now they are considered on of the better modern imports. So at $399 they are worth investigating! Ivan

I have the a2 model with rail. Picked it up at buds on auction for 370 shipped. Good barrel fit. Frame fit has some slop. Had some feeding issues in the first 200 rounds with the factory mag. After a good polish of the internals got her running like a top. suprisingly accurrate for a sub 400 dollar gun.

I've heard some good reports but have no personal experience of them. Just FYI, though, in case you are shopping, I will say that the Rock Island Arms 1911s, in generally the same price range, are superb.

I had one, but foolishly sold it to fund another gun. It's probably the best sub-$400 1911 on the market. If you don't mind the GI style then jump on it. They're very accurate, and the trigger isn't too bad for the price and for not having any custom work to it. Just remember the more you shoot it and dry fire it, the smoother the trigger gets. If I had the cash laying around, I'd pick up another one.

The Auto Ordnance WW2 copy 1911a1 is another good one. It's a tad more but as close to a real ww2 1911 as ill ever get without paying the big money. These were $389 when they were first offered.(2005).

But tisus would make a great shooter/beater.

Personally, I'd shop around and find a used Springfield GI, Colt 1991A1, etc., before buying a Turkish or Filipino 1911. There's a lot of good deals around if you look. I picked up a barely used SA GI Mil-Spec for $425 at a local shop just the other day and got a brand new Colt Commander from Palmetto State Armory a couple of months ago for $599.

Not to knock either Springfield or Colt, but the lower-end Springfields are made in Brazil, while the upper-end ones are finish-machined and assembled in the US from Brazilian parts. The Filipino 1991s are in no way inferior, IMO.

There are no "lower end" Springfields in that sense. They made them either here or there. The "higher end ones just went to the custom shop for custom upgrades. Otherwise the base was all the same. To know where the gun was made you had to go by the S#. They were originally made by Imbel, which has an excellent reputation for making military firearms. Their FALs are some of the best. It is my understanding that today all SA are made/finished here

Shot it today.
At 7 yds, about a 2" group with them bad GI sights.
Only thing is it bit me on the web of my right hand.
Yea, blood....
May put a beavertail grip safety on it.
Some of the ammo I loaded it didn't like.
The FMJ ball stuff worked, trigger is 7 lbs and gritty but for the price, what do you expect.
Still put about 200 rounds through it.
May need more to smooth things out.
Better then the 1911's I had to carry in the Navy back in the 1960's

I bought one used last year. With 200 rounds on it. It is just like "hickok45" says could use new sights some trigger work. The web of my hand was a little tender. IMHO it is a grate gun. It shot better that my Colt S 70 before I had the work done too it. I bought it because I want a stock 45. But it needs so little to be a grate shooter it is tempting.

How do they compare to the recent Remington .45's? Is Remington still making those?

Made in Brazil by IMBEL. One of the best military firearms manufacturers in the world. Check out what their FAL stripped receivers go for.
