to performance center or not?

I've decided to pick up an M&P 15-22 now that some of the madness is subsiding. Seems like the local shop all have a handful of them in stock these days.

My question is, what's the latest thinking on the PC models? Are they worth the sizable premium over something like the MOE models?

The biggest downside I see is the PC models only come with 10 round mags and living in CO, thanks to the new stupid gun laws, I can't buy 25 round mags after July 1st. Seems like ordering any now and getting them by then is about impossible.

So what do you guys think, the PC model or the MOE?

If you want a match-grade 15-22, then yes, the Performance Center version is worth it. If not, the regular or MOE will do just fine.

I have never shot the performance center, but love my regular 15-22. Mine is the one with the threaded barrel and flash hider. Last week while shooting at the little 3 inch tall silhouette in the top left corner of the full size silhouette target I hit 5 for 5 with 4 of them all within an inch at 25 yards. And that was shooting standing unsupported with iron sights and blazer bulk ammo. Needless to say the standard 15-22 is plenty accurate for me.

That along with it being cheaper and the only way to get a 25 round mag I say get a standard or MOE.

I have one of each and the PC model is not that much more accurate than the standard model. I got the PC model first, by the way. The PC model has a fluted 18" barrel with a match chamber. One thing that means is it does not like some types of ammo the regular models eat up. Mine does not like Fed Champion but eats Fed 550 bulk from WM fine. Turns out that Champion is slightly longer than the 550 bulk and the PC's tighter chamber sometimes has feed issues with it. Also won't fire Stingers but nobody really needs to shoot those anyway as they are not very accurate. I think the Vltor stock is better than the MOE personally. The trigger is different although which is better between the AR single stage and the PC RRA two stage is a matter of personal preference. I prefer the Geissele Super 3-Gun which is what is in one of them now.
If I had to do it again, and I was buying it to shoot speed events anyway, I would just get the regular model with a flash-hider. But at the time in MD the PC model with the 10 round mag was cash and carry and I was leaving for the 2011 Ruger Rimfire World Championship in 3 days. Had to wait an extra day till my mags arrived. You don't know what its like shooting 350 rounds of practice thru one 10 round mag the first day.

Thanks guys. I think I'll save me a little money and go for the MOE. While it sounds like no one has any regrets over buying the PC model, there doesn't seem to be much reason for really going that route either.

No brainer, go with the MOE model and save a couple hundred bucks. And another hundred to the the money that you saved and pick up a Savage Mark II bolt gun for the accuracy gun. It will shoot at least 2x better groups than the PC model.

I 100% agree with your statement about the PC models accuracy, and would/did get the non-match model. I personally don't see the extra $270 value S&W has placed on the PC model, as did the OP. Some do.

Good choice martymacfly! Spend the extra money on magazines and ammo!

It comes with the Magpul MBUS sights, MOE grip and MOE stock.

Yup, I'll go the MOE route, hopefully this weekend or early next week while the wife is out of town! 200 bucks is a lot of ammo.

The trick I'm working on now is extra mags before CO's ridiculous "high capacity" mag limits go into place July 1.

While I would like some extra 25rd mags, I won't pay ridiculous prices!

At least you have some time. Our mag ban went into place the minute the legislation was signed by the governor. The one bright spot is we get (for the time being) what we already have. Just can't put more than 10 in them except at home and after we get to a range.

I picked up a Savage Mark II GXP (wood stock combo with a scope) for about $189 plus tax locally. I haven't shot it yet but figured I couldn't go wrong for the price!

I did a few upgrades to my standard M&P15-22. Actually bought it when they first came out and didn't even have the threaded flash hider. Jard 1.5# trigger and slide fire is about as much fun as a guy should have with pants on.

Sweet! I called up S&W and they supposedly have the 10rd long mags in stock. My CC was charged immediately so hopefully those will be here in a few days and if I don't get the "regular" 25 rounders I can mod the 10s.

The lady on the phone was plenty helpful in making sure I knew I just had to drill out the pin. She was surprised the mags were listed as in stock.

Now to go get the rifle and wait another 5 months for the suppressor stamp.

If feel the need for something more accurate I'll use my Marlin Model 60, it's always seemed pretty good.

You are really going to like it. I have the Stainless/bull barrel model with brown laminate stock. That thing is a tack driver, heavy, but not like I'm going to take it in the mountains... Mine liked 40gr Federal Game Shock the best.

Newbie here... I bought a PC before the laws passed here in CT and now if i read it correctly I can still get the rimfire guns but the mags will be limited... I managed to get some pro mag 32's, 4 for $90 shipped, so that wasn't crazy. From what i've read the pro mags aren't as good a stock but better than plinkers?

Have not shot the new baby yet, but I think it just felt better to hold than the regular version... Maybe the longer barrel?

Manage to chase down some CCI mini mags at the local Cabela's for normal retail, so I think I'll get out and run at least a couple hundred through it this weekend.
