To Shoot or Not to Shoot?

I have a 27-2 4" that I traded for, no box or papers or accouterments that shows no evidence that it has ever been fired except at the factory. There is a couple small blemishes in the finish. I will probably never fire it because I only have one in that condition and a model 18 that I bought new that I have shot and the rest of my guns are an accumulation that I enjoy because I never had the means to "collect" and I'm not a youngster. I have sons and grand children who appreciate such things so I will keep it as is and hand it down. I do have a nice shootable model 28.

Good idea. Then the kids will undoubtedly shoot the **** out of it, and you will have given them the pleasure.

I recently bought a Model 29-2 Blued 6" that was advertised as "Excellent" condition. Upon receiving the gun, I found that it was actually in "Mint Condition and Unfired." I've seen all the comments about "Safe Queens" and my question is, for collecting purposes, is an "Unfired" gun worth more?

Are they still making the Model 29-2? If yes, go ahead and shoot it. If no, how many are still out there unfired since they left the factory?

My lovely wife is 53. If I found a magic lamp, rubbed it, and she was 18 again...

You think I'd wrap her in waxed paper and lock her in the safe? Hell No! Shoot that thing like Smith & Wesson intended.

I'll be 70 next birthday.
I'm shooting all my safe queens.
I'd have to be destitute to sell them.
Why should I die with unused guns?

Everyday someone shoots an older unfired gun. Every day the collector market loses an example of an unfired gun.

Plenty of used shooter grade guns available.

I usually won't even keep guns that that have any collector type value. I move them on to someone else that might appreciate it more than me.

I'm a shooter, not a collector.

But people can do whatever they want with their property.
