At the tender {and very green} age of 18, 48 years ago today I married my bride Jeanne. The fact that she has put up with me for this long is truely testament to what an amazing woman I wed.

I was a 17 year old private {E-1} fresh out of basic training assigned to Fort Devens MA for my MOS {98C/B Communications traffic Analyst/Cryptanalyst} training with the Army Security Agency when we met. After dating for all of 3 and half months I proposed on New years Eve and luckily for me she said yes.

In January of 1970 I was assigned to Karamousel Turkey as a newly minted PFC and flew off to spy on the Russians. I managed to convinced my fiance to marry me in July {19th} and fly back to Turkey to start our lives together... silly girl. Ten months later our daughter was born in Ankara. After completeing my tour in Turkey I was sent to Homestead Air Force Base, assigned to a COMINT listening post litterally in the middle of the Everglades to continue spying on the Russians though they were actually in Cuba this time.

A one year early out {thanks to tricky Dicky winding down Viet nam} saw us return to my home in San Diego. I went to San Diego State and Jeane went to work for the school district ultimately putting in 19 years before returning to school to complete her BA and going on to earn her Masters in Social Work.

She worked for San Diego Hospice as a Pediatric Social Worker for several years, many of her patients were terminally ill children or terminally ill adults with children. Add in a Hells Angel and a Navy Seal Admiral to her list of patients and you can see she was doing some pretty special work.

She left Hospice to become a School Social Worker {her dream job} and armed with her Pupil Personnel Credential, spent 7 years working for a small school district in San Diego mostly in Elementary and Middle schools.

Her expertise in crisis and grief counseling saw her called upon by two outside school districts when on campus shootings occurred. Like I said she did some amazing work.

We finally both retired and moved to Tucson 12 years ago and have been living the dream ever since. Built a nice house {cashed out of California} and spend time traveling in our 24' Class C motorhome, usually towing my motorcycle {just upgraded from my Harley Super Glide to the new Torque Monster, Indian Springfield}.

At the start of every trip, be it by RV, bike or both she always asks "Do you have your guns? Which ones and where are they" before we depart. She enjoys riding the bike with me and it had better be at least a weekly event with multiple long trips {400 - 500 mile days} scattered throughout the year.

I am beginning to think she is a keeper... and yes there are a dozen, long stemmed, red roses on the bar.

I am the very best kind of jealous, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your version of this tale!

It will be a treat to re-read this thread again in two years!

Best wishes on the anniversary. I find it amazing that women put up with men's behavior. I am also very lucky my wife has stayed with for some 18500 days so far.

Thank you one and all...

My bride and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who responded and or "Liked". Your kind responses are a little overwhelming.

This Forum can be a rough and tumble venue but such an outpouring of support for our big day was awesome. We went to a great steak house {The Keg} last night for an amazing dinner, Prime Rib for me and Salmon for Jeanne.

Looking forward to celebrating many more and we will really have to kick things loose for the big 50 which is coming fast.

Thanks again!

Congratulations. We're coming up on 31 years ourselves, it only gets better as time goes by and love middle age and empty nesting with 3 successful, self sustaining, independent millennial children!
