My wife and I have been working on our fitness levels and on the days we don't go to the gym, we make it a point to earn our breakfasts. She spend half an hour on our treadmill and I pedaled away on our stationary bike.
When we were done, my wife went out to get something from our truck and when she came back in she told me to get a cigar and get the grill out.
It's a nice sunny warm day out here in the eastern panhandle. I fired up an Arturo Fuente 858 and the grill. I added some hickory chunks to the coals and got it smoking.

One of our cats, Natayo, was looking out of the back door window at us. My wife decided to see how he'd take to a leash.

He actually did pretty well and enjoyed exploring until something under the leaves spooked him and all he wanted was to go back indoors where it was safe.

I grilled up a coupla filet mignons.

My wife cooked a coupla over easy eggs and buttered the toast. She hasta cut my meat for me 'cause my right hand don't work too good.

She soused some mushrooms to go with hers.

And that was our healthy breakfast with lotsa protein and 'bout 500 calories total.

We're planning on a healthy vegetable snack a bit later.

I never developed a taste for coffee. The cigar did go well with some diet cream soda in a frosted mug.

A pot of good coffee with the smell wafting up from the kitchen, the smell of bacon cooking, or in your case, a filet mignon (!) , and a nice cigar, the Fuente 858 - a maduro I hope, and we understand why we are blessed by being given our existence on this earth...

We are indeed blessed with these smells, tastes, and flavors. Many happy returns of this day to you Sir, and to all my invisible S&W forum friends.

Looks good for a small steak with eggs.

I'd have used whole wheat bread, though.

You don't like coffee. Have you tried a cup of tea with breakfast?

where did you get the leash?
When we took our little Sandy on a road trip to get a polyp removed from her ear, my wife had an idea to let her roam the back seat of our truck. She had her set up back there with a little bowl of food and water and a litter box and sat back there with her to make sure she didn't go wandering under the driver's feet.
The drive was a coupla hours and we thought it'd be a bit traumatic for her to stay locked up in a pet carrier all that time.
So we went to PetSmart to pick up a cat harness (I didn't know there was really such a thing) and leash. We got 2 of 2 different sizes 'cause we didn't measure the cats beforehand.
Turns out the small pink frilly one fit little Sandy just right and gave my wife something to prevent little Sandy from wandering to far.

The medium fits both Sarah and Natayo. Sarah's doesn't like the harness but Natayo seems fine with it.

Susie—It is a bad idea to try to handle a feral cat if you don't have the equipment and experience. The best way to handle them is to trap them in a Havahart box trap. They are easy to catch by simply placing the cats food bowl in the back past the trap lever.

The traps are fairly expensive though. I would recommend you go to your local animal control agency and borrow a trap from them. The vet you use may have one, or put you with someone that has a trap.

Then you can take the wild kitty safely to the vet. Any vets office will know how to handle and they can return the cat to the trap after treatment.

how much did the harness cost?
i'm trying to find a cheap way of getting a feral cat to the vet.
suggestions?
The harness was just a few bucks.
Is this for Drifter or Cowboy?
According to my wife who has a lot more experience with cats than I do. There's more to the story on my original post. After wife and spooked cat exited camera range, it took him about 5 seconds of bucking and leaping like a rodeo bull to extricate himself from the harness, he ran around the house to the back door. Upon finding it closed, he was about to disappear under the porch but my wife managed to get it open just in time. He ran in and hide under the bed. There isn't a collar, leash or harness that a cat can't wiggle out of if said cat really wants too.

If the cat's never been in a car before, get an appropriate sized carrier. If you can't afford one, vets, the Humane Society or another crazy cat lady will let you borrow one. Then put it in the house in one of her favorite spots, put her favorite stuff -like a blanket or toy or treats in it, leave the door open and see if she'll go in by herself to get her used to the crate. Cat's generally like hidey boxes. Once it's in there and the carrier's closed, carry it to the car and off you go.
Note, once the vehicle starts moving, she will sing at the top of her lungs. Tough love, let the baby cry itself to sleep. Lullaby's help, our cat's like listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival.
My wife had one that was such a cool mellow cat until it came time to take him to the vet. Then he was the most ferocious beast. Blood was spilled. Before the vet would see him for a second visit, he prescribed a tranquilizer to put in his food right before the visit.

Good luck!
