Hands down, "Tombstone" is my favorite western movie of all time. Both Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer were superb in their roles.

My wife and I visit Tombstone often, and I enjoy soaking up the history and nostalgia of the place each time we visit. My maternal grandfather served on juries around the turn of the 20th Century in the Tombstone courthouse, which was then the Cochise county seat (later moved to Bisbee).

Here are some of the pictures I've taken in Tombstone -

I really like the cross-draw when Doc head-shoots Ringo. I practice that one regularly. Keep your left hand busy and well out of the way though. Good way to lose an elbow.

I was just about to post a video of a scene of Wyatt pistol whipping one of the Clanton brothers when I just remembered I have until tomorrow 1:30pm CST for my last infraction to expire. The scene had a few naughty words in it and I didn't want to get another one :D

I do have this movie on DVD and it is among my favorite westerns. The whole movie from start to finish is very entertaining to watch & the best gunfight at the OK corral version IMO.

For me, when it comes to movie
gunfights in Westerns much prefer
Open Range (if Kevin Costner in a
editing error can have a six shooter
with more shots, then I cite Kilmer's
three shot double barrel shotgun) then
the shootouts in Appaloosa and
finally the one at the end of The
Shootist.

None of the three I cite rely on so-called
fast draw. Each revolves around grit
and dirty pool in getting off the first shots.

Russell and Kilmer as those guys? Really? Ok, I’ll check it out (back in 1993 or so). Man was I shocked at the brilliant portrayals but especially the guns, gear, and clothes! I think historically, Costner and especially Dennis Quaid were more accurate portrayals, though not as entertaining. I have an old American Handgunner magazine with an extensive article about the authenticity of guns and gear used with tons of pictures. Every western made since should use Caravan West Productions owned by the guy who played Texas Jack in it.

Something about "turn your head into a canoe"...
I thought that scene had an awful flaw in it. Just think, a guy, surrounded by miscreants intending him great bodily harm, has his finger on a cocked pistol with the muzzle against your forehead, when someone comes up behind him and fires a shotgun in the air. Hard to imagine that anyone could keep from fulfilling the cranium to canoe promise, intentionally or not! I know that if I were in Ike's place, I certainly would have soiled my drawers.

My favorite scene is early in the movie when Doc is consistently winning poker hands. A rival player accuses him of cheating in a nasty and threatening manner. Doc says something like "If I were to think we couldn't be friends, I just don't think I could bear it!"
