I was at my favorite LGS/Range this morning burning some powder, and on my way out stopped at the used-consignment counter. They had a very nice looking Model 14-3. I don't really NEED one, I have a much older but essentially the same Target Masterpiece but...

This one has a target trigger, target hammer, trigger stop, is nice and clean and tight and properly timed. Only $750. I was sorely tempted, and may go back after it next week anyway. I don't really do any serious bullseye shooting but still.......

Good price. The Model 14 isn't a real hot seller, at least around here. I've got an earlier K-38, don't recall what I paid but I don't think it was that much.

Back in the day, I mean really
back in the day, beyond the
Model 14 being a target gun,
it was seen as a way of giving
the .38 Special LRN some
extra pizzaz/oomph/wallop.

The 6-inch .38 Specials like
the Model 14 and Model 10
were quite common in police
holsters at one time. And the
extra sight radius over the
4-inchers didn't hurt either.

There doesn't seem to be much of a demand for .38 special revolvers in general . I'm not sure how much of a demand there is for the S&W Model 14 or the going prices on them .
I purchased my 14-1 about 7 or 8 yrs. ago in excellent condition with Target hammer ,trigger and grips/stocks along with the original serial numbered box .
I paid about $700 for it at the time and have no regrets with having made the purchase.

That is probably a great price in Cali...

Last one I bought was a no dash back during the pandemic and it came with Sandersons for $375. The condition was only about 75% or so but it shoots darn good. Manages to make me look like a decent shot.

To me, the OP's 14-3 sighting seems high. But, in CA, who knows? Maybe that's an "OK" price there?
But, John, that "No Dash" 14 with the Sandersons is an awesome deal!
Very Nice!
Glad someone who can appreciate it made the score!!

I picked up a nice '55-vintage K-38 a few years ago. Paid about what the Blue Book shows it going for. Never regretted it once.

Finding nice vintage S&W's depend on many factors. Since they are by definition, "not made like that anymore", they have to make it into the used market. Not uncommonly from an owner selling a collection, inheritance, or just wants "something" new. Condition of these depends of course, on how they were used and cared for. Some of these histories are known. Some are implied. Many are just S.W.A.G.'s. I've seen many K-38"s in recent years. They run the spectrum from well-used target pieces to N.I.B. revolvers that just were forgotten in some drawer.

This pair; a well cared for 14-2 Dayton 4" and a factory-fired 14-2 6" found a home with me. NO, they are not MAGNUMs. NO, they are not NEW. And YES, they really don't make them like this anymore! ;):D

One of the easiest to shoot hand guns
Ever made. The price for the condition
You stated is a good price these days.
At gun shows around here it would be
Gone in a minute.
But what do I know.

I bought a 14-4 in 1978 when I was home on leave. I still have it and it gets to the range once in a while. I think that's the gun that taught me to shoot, because I couldn't blame it on the gun!
