I brought two guns.

The all black gun's a Rock River Arms .22LR upper on a Del-Ton lower.
The purple guy's a Palmetto State Armory in .223 Wylde.
Both have Larue 2 stage triggers.

That's me with the .223.

And my Nephew.

One of our targets out at 50 yards.

My Nephew's a good looking fellow, looks a lot like his Uncle Wayne.

Supposedly, the tubes are for noise reduction.
I've seen these in use before- even bigger ones, on a military range perhaps. I'd think that they'd mostly prevent "side blast" to shooters beside you- not a bad thing. Flat panels lined with Roxul Safe 'n Sound between the shooting positions would be even better, but more expensive. I had a guy with a big ported magnum of some sort next to me once and it really rattled my fillings.

I like the muzzle blast collector tubes. Ideal when the guy on the next lane is using a 300 Win Mag or more with a muzzle brake. Mind you, I'll bet that some complain they affect accuracy.

With a scope or optics, on the bench,
you might try small bullseyes, like in the picture above.
Put three in each.
Easy to make with a printer.
I make 2" circles.
Taught to me by the top shooters in the USAF and my Dad's NYPD buddies.

Seems like the tubes would amplify the noise, especially in the direction of the shooter! I right away thought that the tubes were for helping keep the muzzle (the shooter, really) from pointing above the berm. It happens a lot more than most people know about.

That makes more sense. Both guns have muzzle brakes that sends blast to the sides. Not so much on the .22LR but more on the .223.
