Went with my son today. I've been hoping to get him involved in something that we can do together, as he's 18, and has only one thing on his mind these days. He's even more of a newb than I am, last and only time he was at a range was when he was 13, up in the Poconos, PA.

I shot the TRR8 first. I had been thinking of selling it, but decided that I would lose too much money on it. I initially had reservations about using some jacketed hollow points, but the excellent answer in this thread calmed my fears of lead fouling:

I started with some 38's. No surprises. My son like them, but seemed to be having a bit of a tough time getting a nice smooth trigger action. I had dry fired the gun a bit, so I felt more comfortable with it. I moved the silhouette out to 25 yrds, wondering how well I would shoot, as I had never shot at 25 yrds before. I kept them all on the actual silhouette, in a circle about 9 inches around. I have no idea whether that's any good.
My boy enjoyed firing a 9mm more. He felt better with it, despite the greater recoil, as the gun was lighter, and had a lighter trigger.

I shot the 357's through it last. I've never shot .357's before. At first I was surprised by the lack of recoil and noise. That lasted for but two rounds, as then I noticed a bit of buzzing in the palm of my hand, as well as the fingers in front of the grip. Only lasted a second though. I also noticed what felt like little bits of dirt hitting me in the face. I don't know whether it was actually particulate matter, or simply a sensation.

Pics? I got only two of my boy with my cell phone LOL. Funny thing is, I'm an avid photographer. Don't know whether the range allows cameras, although they seemed pretty laid back in general. Maybe I'll bring a camera next time.

Someone on another forum said the .357 stuff in the face is probably just hot gases and a bit of powder. That's what it felt like. I was told that it's probably not a timing issue, as it would have shaved the 38's I shot too.

Groo here
I have a TR-R8 with a red dot on it.
with 180gr hunt load it will hit
a paper plate at 125 yds with out any fuss.

I LOVE my TRR8, it is a great shooter and the buzz you feel is just the excitement of anticipation of the next shot, LOL
They are a fine gun and great for HD too as you have 8 shots and don't have to worry about it jamming.
Enjoy it and your time with your boy.

Groo:
