Took the wife to the Range to shoot my Shield

We have been married 25 years and my wife agreed for only the second time to shoot a firearm.

I brought an assortment of handguns from 22lr to 45 ACP.

Her choice of firearm was my Ruger single six 22 lr.

If I can talk her into returning at least I will be able to afford the ammo especially shooting a single action 22lr revolver. More then half the time I am loading or unloading the weapon.

I realized today after bringing every handgun I own along with a few borrowed handguns my best shooting came from what I was most familiar.

It may be obvious to some but I was amazed that I shot my Shield better than my full size XD 45.

I only mention this because it hit me today that a gun is like a musical instrument. If you don't use it you will loose it and when I shot tighter with a Shield over my full size XD I realized I have got to either stick with one handgun (Shield) or I need to shoot all my weapons on a more frequent basis especially if some will be used for home defense.

The one time my wife accompanied me to the range I had my Shield and my SR22. Wife pulled the trigger on the SR22 twice. She would not even pickup the Shield.

I'm with you! I've been married for 25 years as well, and mine just recently expressed that she wants her own hand gun....I have had her to the range twice to shoot....Today, she shot my .40 cal one time, and then handed it back to me! She gravitated toward a 380

My wife and I have been married 40 years and she has been to the range with me a number of times. She owns a S&W Model 36, Charter Arms Pink Lady .38 and a Ruger Bearcat .22. She especially likes to shoot the Bearcat (as expected).

She has fired my pistols (.380, .38, 9mm, .40) enough to know to use them for home defense if the situation ever arises.

But I will never be able to get her to carry on a regular basis. I just don't think it's in her DNA.

I am glad to read there are other wives out there that don't care to shoot.

Oh well at least my wife is ok with my hobby.

First/last time I took Mrs. to the range, I loaded 5 in my 1911. She picked it up, put all 5 in the black at 25yds. Didn't know whether to be impressed or scared to death.

I took my wife to the range, and at the time I had a Ruger P90 and a Ruger BlackHawk 45LC 45 5/8 barrel. She picked up my Blackhawk (with my hunting load- a little hotter than usual) and put 5 out of 6 in the black. She put that one down and picked up my P90 and put 6 in the black, and put it down and said "I'm finished"! I was too! She sees the need for defense and likes that I carry, but she carries pepper spray. I'm good with that. I'm not scared, but very wary! >

My wife has expressed an interest in shooting (she has been exposed to weapons in the military and recently qualified on the M9)

She wants to carry when she is out biking hiking etc and I'm not around. She likes the size and feel of the 642 Airweight She has not ever fired a snubby before but insists this is what she wants to shoot

Should be an interesting day at the range especially when she said the M9 beat her up a bit

Mine shoots with me now and then. She knows how to handle and shoot everything I have. Surprisingly,she likes shooting the FS over the c's. She is small framed and has small hands,but likes the feel of the FS M&P's. She always did like my Colt Commander and does shoot it very well.

Ive been maried for fourty years. I took my wife to shoot for the first time when we were thirty years old. The first gun I shot was my model 29-2 with 8 3/8". She said she wanted to shoot it right off the bat. I showed her how to load it and how to use the sights. The next thing I knew she had put six rounds in a 3" bullseye at 50' and she cocked it for the seveneth time and I thought I might see just a little bit of a flinch, but all I saw was the hammer fall. I don't give much lip and we have a great relationship. The only thing she questions sometimes is the number of weapons I have and will it ever end.( I don't think so!)
