Top Break .32

[Powder Burns]

I have a five shot, top break, .32 S&W caliber, shrouded hammer (D/A only) revolver with no model number or brand stamping.
The black rubber(?) grips have a target logo on them. Is this an old Smith and Wesson make or anybody know who made it?

Photos would be helpful, but if it is unaltered it doesn't sound to be an S & W, as they had stampings and stocks marking them as such.

I think you may have a H&R 32 short dao revolver

Does it look like mine,I bet it does. It has the targets imprinted on the grips. The top of the barrel should have been marked with the MFG name and patent dates. A box of 50 rnds will set you back about 28-30 bucks to let fly a 85 gr lead bullet around 620 fps.

Thanks, I believe that's the one. There are no number/letter markings on the revolver anywhere except the side of the barrel ".32 S&W Cartridge" and the serial number on the bottom of the grip strap.

that' s a Harrington &Richardson hamerless model,looks like it's refinished , I have such a model in 22RF,expert on this guns is Jim Hauff and of course the late and respected Mr Gofforth

Didn't know they made a .22 version...I wish mine were .22 RF. The .32 S&W shorties are getting expensive and harder to find.

Yes I refinished it when I bobbed the barrel from 5" to 2 1/2"
I know I really should have left it original. I never modify old guns until this one.

didn't know myself ,but it's a scarce gun ,it's the seventh variation of the hamerless model ,Mr Hauff said it was the first he saw in sixteen years,mine is a seven shot .22 and I shoot it often it was made in 1927 so well within the smokeles era,be carefull shooting a pre 1900 gun

I had this one looked over professionally, and stupid or not, I do shoot it.
It goes in my pocket when hunting occasionally. Just for fun.

The target logo is H&R...If it has a flat hammerspring

it is a BP gun...It will eventually shoot loose when shot repeatedly with smokeless ammo. If it has a coil spring, it is a smokeless powder gun and shuld be OK for more decades. I have a nickel H&R topbreak in .38 S&W, and I shoot it as well...they are very convenient to carry in a pocket.

FWIW, the longer barrels versions were much less common. They were sold as defense guns and are not Smiths, but are still very good revolvers.

I found a box of ammo today on the shelf. Rare...had to have it.
I usually have to order .32 S&W.
