Top-Break 32

I have recently acquired a top break revolver with a 3 inch barrel. Serial number is : 231XXX. Other markings are 32 S&W CTG and the SW trademark. It has a 5 round cylinder. Also, the revolver does not have an external hammer. It does have the safety built into the grip. It has fixed sights, the rear being a tiny V, the front is a simple blade.

I am hopeful that someone can tell me when it was manufactured, an estimated value (I would consider it to be in good condition) and where I might find ammo for it. I am assuming I can't shoot 32 long or magnum in this little revolver.

Welcome to the Forum. Your gun was made in approx. 1924 and it is a .32 Safety Hammerless, 3rd model. The only ammo. it will chamber is .32S&W. It will not shoot .32 Long or Magnums. You did not say whether the finish is nickel or blue, or how much original finish remains, nor the mechanical condition, so a value estimate can't be made at this time. Posting some photos will help.Ed.

About 2 weeks ago I was in the local Gander Mtn. and they had just put out a few boxes of Rem. .32 S&W. It was $35.25 a box. You may be able to find some at a gun show. Larry

Thanks for the info gentlemen. The revolver is blued, and seems to be in pretty good shape overall. The finish is motled a bit above the grip on both sides and around the end of the barrel. I have uploaded a few images. Mechanically, it is functional, the cylinder seems pretty tight.

Value?

Based on your post in another thread Ed, I am thinking my little .32 has a value of somewhere near $300, maybe $350.

I did find one box of 32 S&W from a private collector (pure luck) but would like to find more. Even the online sources have it on back order, so any leads for ammo will be welcomed.

I am interesting in selling my 32 cal, serial 99071 S&W top break, 5 shot similar to picture in original. I am new to this forum but would like an idea of the value.Nickle plate, very good condition. I believe that serial # 99071 was late 1800's ,possibly Model 4. Appreciate any comments. I also have a 50 round, 88 grain and fires in this revolver.

Value of these vintage revolvers are very dependent on condition. We would need several good clear pictures from various angles to see the condition, and that then depends on if the mechanics are if good working condition. It could be from around $150 up to $350 or more.
