I am looking for a top shelf smith and wesson gunsmith. I am near Asheville NC so south east is best but if I need to ship it then that's what I'll do.

Thanks, Pete

If we've got one anywhere close I'd like to know also. I always send my S&W work to Frank Smith at LSG Manufacturing in Comanche, TX.

Great post - I am kicking myself for not having posted this before sending my last S&W for a barrel fit.

This. Am not from N.C. but know of Leonard Baity and have seen some of his work. He is top notch without a doubt. A master with S&W revolvers.

Smith work and repair

Number one , all should remember that after 1989 most all repair is covered under warranty, I believe in using Smith themselves for all work they will do. Now, there are many things they will not do, but I want to point out that in my experience they canbe less expensive then local guys and always have the right tools and fixtures to change barrels for example.
Remember, gun repair is not like car repair, the manufactures themselves are available to us at the same or often less cost, why would one ship to anyone else.
Now , with all that said, for little things , I do often use my local guy, but , to change a barrel ? no thanks I will go with Smith , same price $60.00 !
I also often send in two or three guns at once which helps a lot with shipping expense.Just my two cents !

Jim is tops as far as I am concerned, he is a member of the Pistolsmiths Guild and was pistolsmith of the year in 1999.

Amen on that, I always use the manu whenever possible ;)

1989 ? Who's got a smith made after 89 ? Sorry... don't own, and not in the market for any made after 82.

Check with Frank Glenn, e-mail: [email protected]

When selecting a "Factory Authorized" S&W gunsmith, be aware that the S&W factory school was open mainly to LEO & Military gunsmiths, so the Smith 'smith in your area may be just some guy with a screwdriver & some Smith & Wesson Stationery.

My Dad, a Smith & Wesson shooter & collector, lives in Tucson and said that the Factory guys in Tucson aren't any good. I know of 2 in Arizona - one is Frank Glenn & the other is Nelson Ford (thegunsmith.com).

Both are highly recommended.

Matt at the Revolver Armorer did great work on my 640-1 (action work, trigger polish, chamfer cylinders, night sight install) and 65-3 (already had a smooth trigger but he fixed a strain screw problem, chamfered the cylinders, and installed an orange insert in the front sight). They are in Southern VA, great people and great work.

I've heard great things about Apex as well, but used Matt since I was local at the time and could drop my revolvers off and talk about the work I wanted done.

Welcome to Apex Tactical Specialties, Inc.
