My collage final exam had only two questions:

1. Define the universe - give 3 examples.

2. What is the circumference of a circle with a diameter of 3.96 arshins? Compute your answer using roman numerals to 6 places. Show your work.

I switched my major to colors and shapes.

Funny u mention college. On the news today they were talking about a local college where the faculty were working without a contract for a year now. They interviewed an assistant professor of philosophy. And I thought what practical use is there for a degree in philosophy other than teaching others about philosophy. U know the type, shaggy hair patchy beard glasses and about 140 lbs wet. He didn’t look or sound witty. I’m positive he’s never been the life of the party. Maybe someone can explain what I’m missing?!?!?!?!

They make great fodder for us criminal justice professors :D

A career in education was the financial driver that allowed me to serve a small rural congregation for 35 years. My time on faculty at a small state University in addition to my own graduate education helped me to observe some things.
1. Education is a tool. In skilled hands it's useful. In inept hands in can be a danger
2. Graduate education means you know a lot about a narrow area, but you might be enticed to think you know everything about everything.
3. There is ALWAYS someone who knows more about the topic in question than do you.

The sum of the square times PI added to the velocity of the variation with the multitude including the gross weight of the friction factor easily provides the correct answer. Gees, everybody knows that. I need more cognac!

A question on the exam at the philosophy department at the University of Wallamaloo given by The Bruces:

Bonus points for reciting the school song; "this here's the wattle. The emblem of our land. You can stick it in a bottle. You can hold it in your hand."

1) You study and learn a little bit about a lot of thing and you get a BS. (creative spelling disabled here)

2) You study and learn more about fewer things and you get a MS. = More of Same

3) You keep studying until you almost everything about almost nothing and you get a PHD. = Piled Higher and Deeper

Took a philosopy class my freshman year in college. Has to write a term paper. Only thing I remember about it was that it was handwritten on a page and a half of yellow legal sized paper. Got an A. Got an A for the course. Pretty much told me everything I needed to know about great thinking-apparently I was born with the gift :D

I seem to remember('seem' being an important qualifier) reading of an essay exam in philosophy given somewhere which contained but one question: Why?

The only student receiving a superior grade answered: Why not?

Speaking of questions... In the days before cellphones I would listen to Eddie Fingers on WEBN during my drive to work each morning. He always had a daily contest where he would ask a clever trick question and offer a cool prize to the first caller who got it right.

He asked the question "what's the first thing you know?"

I almost dropped the transmission in my truck trying to get to a phone as I absolutely knew the answer. Caller after caller would give ever increasingly bizarre answers and it was killing me to be so helpless.

After what seemed like an eternity and just as I skidded to a stop in the store parking lot a caller said "old Jed's a millionaire".

I was deflated.

If I had just had the abilities and commitment to complete barber college I would probably understand everything so much better.

Oh well. Another opportunity squandered. At least I didn't have a student loan to repay or beg forgiveness for.

I once asked a co-worker that question. I expected the usual momentary confusion that allowed me to deliver the punchline. Instead, he immediately replied, "Jesus is Lord." I just nodded and walked away.

I have a diploma which says something to the effect, I do hereby appoint you to the rank of W2 to serve as such at the pleasure of the President of the US. It is signed by E. Dole, Secretary of Transportation for POTUS.

My other diploma is a scar on the upper left side of my head for which I got nothing but a lesson learned, keep your helmet on in a war zone.

The first question is easy! The answer is "Anything that is all-encompassing" and three examples would be my wife, my mother, and my mother-in-law.
