Replacing the battery on my son’s 2002 Toyota Camry this morning. Great car with only 80,000 miles. Took out old battery and went to Advance Auto and got a new one. Had the battery out for about two hours as I had to clean up cable connectors, etc. Put in new battery car started and ran fine but would not idle. RPMs would drop and engine would shut off instead of idle What the heck? Had me stumped. Went on Google and found a video. The ECU had to reset and “relearn” the proper idle rpms. Here is how it is done.
1. Turn off all electrical accessories.
2. Put in park and turn the key on and off three times.
3. Put on parking brake, start car, rev to idle rpms and with foot on brake put in drive. Return to park.
4. In 4 minutes of idling the ECU relearned the proper idle rpm setting from factory and all ok. Drove around neighborhood and car was fine.
Thanks to the guy who made the video on you tube!!!
