Trade a 66 for a 686?

Well, I sold the 66-2 and got a 686-3. Nor unhappy in the deal at all. The 686 feels like it was made for my hand. I've been spensing time polishing it with Mother's Mag Polish and it sure is a looker. I thought I'd miss the 66, but I don't (at least not yet)> My reasoning was I don't know what I'm gonna be shooting in 10 years. I don't like being limited in what I shoot or how much of it I shoot. If it says ".357 Magnum" on the gun, it should be able to shoot .357 magnum if that's what I want to feed it.

My 66 is to look at, and I work the dog do-do out of my 686, to bad you couldn't have both but there is alot of 66's out there. Real nice ones are gitting harded to find and the price on mine keeps going up :D.

Sold mine for $500. FFL made a comment when I dropped it of to ship it. He said "Why are tou selling a brand new gun?". He couldn't believe it when I told him it was 24 years old. My 686, that I picked up the same day, was filthy. I don't understand how someone can ship a filthy gun. But it cleaned up real nice and now looks like that 66 did.

Sir, I'd think your 66 would be worth more than a 686 in equal condition. The 66 is no longer made and has a certain cult following besides.

FWIW, I've had both and much prefer the 66.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

+1. Have a 2.5" 19, 3" 66 plus a 4" 586. The 586 would go before the K frames. I've shot probably 1500 rounds of magnums through my 66 and it's still tight. They are also easier to pack and just feel perfect in my hands.

I just picked up a nice 686-6, with a 2.5" barrel. It's in excellent condition, and is going to become my secondary carry gun for now. It's a seven-shot model with Hogue grips.

I figure that the flame alone will scare off most BG's.
