Traded for a 3953... anyone else like these?

I have two 3914s and a 3953. Any one is more than adequate for CC. However, for a DAO I really am biased towards the Browning BDM. I have two and usually have them set for DAO (a simple twist of a screw head) and with a 15+1 9 mm load, only about an inch longer than the 3953 and an eighth of an inch "fatter". Dave_n

Laddy Smith... I almost hate to say. I bought a couple traditional bows and 3 dozen arrows about 3 years ago on Craigslist... I was into them $100. I sold one dozen arrows to a friend for $50 and traded the bows and the other two dozen arrows for the SW and he threw in $100. I had tried to sell the bows for a profit, but they never moved. So I am feeling good about the trade.

Looking for a 3913LS ...

I recently bought a 3913NL from member here and now I'm looking for a 3913LS to match (it under the guise of a gift for the wife).

One nice thing is that the mags will fit my CS9, adding a round in capacity.

I had one in the late 90s, never really liked it. I found it to be too narrow and the trigger was heavy. To each his own.

Just picked up one of these off auction. I gotta say it is one nice handgun. Ultra smooth trigger and great shot handling.

I had a 3954, the blued version of your 3953. I bought it new in 1992 and put a box or two through it. I liked it. I would have preferred the 3953 for it's corrosion resistance, but... I loaned it to a friend who's house had been burglarized and her guns taken. She was one of the felony prosecutors in our county attorney's office and I investigated her case as a detective. She lived alone except for a huge green and red parrot. She had prosecuted a lot of my cases. The pistol taken was a 39-2. I loaned her the 3954 so she wouldn't be unarmed; prosecutors hurt a lot of peoples' feelings and some of them come out of jail and/or prison with bad attitudes.

I caught her burglar but he no longer had her handgun and couldn't/wouldn't tell me where it went.

We scheduled a couple of times to meet for her to give me back my 3954, but meetings fell through and I forgot about it. Then, she retired and moved and I retired and I would be embarrassed to hunt her down and ask her for it back after the passage of this much time. It's on my to-do list but the only time I ever remember it is late at night when I'm on a gun forum like this one and the subject of DAO S&W 9mm comes up.

One last irrelevant point to make: If you are burglar, don't burglarize a prosecutor's house. When you get caught, it seems that the judges take a bigger whack at you because the victim was one of their own!

My recently purchased 3953 is back from the gunsmith, with a nicely bead-blasted slide plus barrel and take-down lever. Not much can be done about wear or marks on the aluminum frame, but refinishing the slide makes the overall pistol look very good. And it shoots great (I also replaced the recoil spring).

One of the hidden benefits of a S&W 3d Gen stainless steel slide, and of the all-stainless pistols, is that they can be very nicely refinished for a reasonable cost. When I say "stainless steel" I mean pistols that are silver-colored, e.g., "in the white."

Mine was bead-blasted by a well-known and very fine gunsmith in N. Va., for $87 = well worth it. (I'm not sure about mentioning names on the forum, but if anyone wants the name/address/number for this gunsmith, send me a PM).

They are one of the best autos Smith ever made I believe. I don't have one now but carried one a lot at one time. Fine little gun.

Carried one for years as a detective on Atlanta PD. Loved it. A very fine weapon. Recently gave it to a grandson. Still have the when I obtained an APD model 5903, the duty weapon then.
