Marked one off the "Holy Grail" list today when I spotted an 8 3/8" model 27 today at a local haunt. I've wanted an 8 3/8" for a long time to finish my set and for long range use. A closer look revealed it to be a model 27-3, so unfortunately it wasn't P&R. However, the price was too good to resist. I got them down to $499 OTD, which I thought was a good deal on any 27 in decent shape, even one not pinned & recessed. No box, but it did have the original factory target stocks, as well as the other two T's. The finish is beautiful, and the gun looked to be fired very little. Also, I just happened to have an extra 1 piece, Lear Sigler era box for an 8 3/8" N frame laying around that needed a gun, so there was another good reason to take it home. I sold a Rossi 68 and a Norinco 9mm to put towards the price, which brought final cost to me to $284 OTD out of pocket. Not a bad deal, huh? Serial # is AJZ2xxx, dating it to 1986 according to SCSW. This is my third 27. Boy, these are addictive! Here's some pics:

That definitely is a gorgeous piece of firearm. I've got the 5" Custom Shop 627 and its look'n for some Model 27 company in my safe! I'm keep'n my eye out and that long barrel would suit me just fine.

very nice looks alot like my 29, I went on a little 27 buying spree over the last week on gunbroker, bought two 4 inch and one 6 inch. can't wait for them to get here..

Bit of trivia for you...I first got to know Jerry Miculek over 30 years ago shooting pins in Michigan. The 8 3/8in. M27 was what he used for his pin guns with a 200gr bullet over a stiff charge of powder loaded in .38Spl. cases. That boy could tickle a revolver trigger even way back then! He told me the N frame magnums were the only guns that ever held up for him (no L frames then) and that he also used them in IPSC to shoot 'major'.

I agree the M27s are addictive!

Congrats on getting that fine 8.375" Model 27-3. My first S&W revolver was a 27-2 with that barrel length. It came cased and has long been an incredibly fine shooting revolver. I still own it, and intend to only pass it on to my son. My father bought that 27 for my 27th birthday, which was a bit over 30 years ago. Enjoy that 27!

If you've never owned/shot the long 27 you're in for a treat. Very nice gun and great price.
