A man was driving when a traffic camera flashed.

He thought his picture was taken for exceeding the speed limit,
even though he knew he was not speeding.
Just to be sure, he went around the block and
passed the same spot, driving even more slowly, but
again the camera flashed. He thought this was quite funny, so
he slowed down even further as he drove past the area, but the
traffic camera flashed yet again. He tried a fourth time with the same result.
The fifth time he was laughing when the camera flashed as he rolled past
at a snail's pace.

Two weeks later, he got five traffic fine letters in the mail for driving
without a seat belt.

Fortunately, we don't have traffic cameras, so I don't know if this is supposed to be true, or if it is a joke.

I can understand how they'd work on speeding. Either with radar, or with two wires a certain distance apart. I can see how it would catch someone running a red-light. But how can a camera know if you have your seat belt on?

Do you actually believe this? Do you have documentation to prove that this their "priority"?

I don't know about the Texas troopers, but the city of Marshall, TX put up red light cameras on Hwy 59, which carries a great deal of truck traffic. They have a speed limit of 45 to 55 through town, but very short yellow lights. It's impossible to stop a loaded truck in time to keep from running the light. No, I have no "proof" that this is a money making scheme, but what else would you call it?

I believe there is a standard length of time that a light must be yellow. If I were to get a ticket, and believed the light to be faulty, I would go to the intersection and video tape the light for a few cycles. I may do nearby intersections as well, and use it as evidence in court.

I think it is a joke.

truckemup97 - you need to go back and read my comment and what I questioned.

<span class="ev_code_RED">"In texas that is all the state police do, is make seat belt tickets a priority, just a money grab"</span>

I put the quote in red for you

The state legislature passed a bill to outlaw red light cameras and the governor signed the bill into law this session. There were only two cities in the state that had them installed, Jackson, the state capitol, and Columbus, a city adjacent to Mississippi State University. Both cities used a private company to operate the lights and send out the citations. Apparently, some of the legislators had been caught while in Jackson, and later determined that the private companies were making too much money, or were not giving enough money back to the municipalities that had signed a contract for their services. So, they convinced their fellow legislators to outlaw them in Mississippi.

We had traffic cameras for a while in my town but, they found out that they weren't what they were cracked up to be and they took them all out. Besides a certain part of the fines they took in were supposed to go to schools and if I recall correctly the schools had to sue to get their money. They are a dumb idea, should have seen all the cars that tried to slam on brakes half way thru the intersection in order to avoid a citation. What a JOKE!!

It is well-documented that red light cameras cause rearend accidents. We had them at several intersections here in Lubbock for a few months, and rearenders went up significantly. There was also the problem of borrowed/loaned vehicles getting ticketed, where the "offender" was not the car owner, which created snafus all over. One of our local state representatives authored a bill to ban them statewide, but I don't think it got out of committee for a vote, unfortunately. Our idiotic, irresponsible legislature spent the entire session mostly debating worthless bills and quibbling over a voter ID bill that should have passed both houses unanimously, leaving many good bills lying dead in committees.

Still, our motorcycle cops will sit two blocks from an intersection where folks run red lights constantly, facing away from the intersection, running their laser radar, collecting speeding taxes. Lights me up like a grumpy old Christmas tree!!!

I don't normally get in the middle of things but you have me confused.

You make it seem as though you quoted the money grab thing. I had to go back several times to figure it out but couldn't. Oh well, I'm sure it's just me and Friday and I want to go home and have more then a few drinks then fire up the grill for a few T-boner's.

Holy cow Batman...........

I'm not even talking about cameras or money grabbing ........I'm questioning a poster that comments about a Texas State Trooper's priority is giving seat belt tickets. I quoted his ENTIRE POST

I find that hard to believe <span class="ev_code_RED">"that is all they do"</span>

WOW..........my brain hurts

I do recall though that many years ago over in Germany this business guy from the States went there on a business trip. While over there he got his photo taken and without his knowlage a copy of the photo along with a speeding ticket was sent to his home before he even got back. (I guess they got his address from the car rental)

Well, his wife opened the letter and took one look at the photo and had a kanipchin fit! There was a perfect photo of her husband with a lovely blond sitting next to him with her arm over his shoulder!!

When the guy got home all his stuff was scattered on the front yard.

True story as far as I know.
